Focus on Witness & Ministry
Every church, cherishing every life--that is PPL's vision for the Presbyterian Church (USA), for every Presbyterian and Reformed body, and beyond. We long to see life cherished everywhere by everyone in our culture and the world. It's a big vision and our part in it is humble and small. In this newsletter we are zooming in our focus on two aspects of the work before us: witness and ministry.
General Assembly 2012 is coming and PPL volunteers will have a pro-life presence there in Pittsburgh in July. Inside this issue, learn about one overture we will be supporting at the assembly. Combining witness and ministry, PPL resources have been featured at table displays in two presbyteries recently with some exciting results. Also in this newsletter are several articles focused on ministry partnerships and materials that may help equip your church for life affirming ministry in your community. I hope you will find this newsletter helpful and we'd love to hear your feedback about what you would like to see in future issues.
Presbytery asks GA to protect Presbyterians "from the sin of complicity in the taking of human life..."
On November 8, 2011, The Washington Presbytery voted (43-9) to approve an overture to the 220th GA. The overture asks the GA to direct the Board of Pensions to provide a medical benefits plan which will not pay for abortions except to save the physical life of the mother. The text of the Washington Presbytery Overture reads:
Resolved, that the Presbytery of Washington overtures the 220th General Assembly (2012) to protect Presbyterians who believe abortion is sin, from the sin of complicity in the taking of human life by directing the Board of Pensions to provide a medical benefits plan which will not pay for abortions, except that any procedure necessary to save the physical life of the woman will be covered.

Di Lupton, PPL Board member, set up a PPL display table at a recent Missouri Union Presbytery meeting. Di, who also manages PPL's Booth at General Assemblies and Presbyterian Women Gatherings, has learned that pro-life displays often prompt opportunities for ministry to men and women who have experienced abortions. PPL is looking for a volunteer in each Presbytery to host a PPL table at Presbytery meetings and distribute our resources to churches and individuals. If God is calling you to help with this effort please contact the PPL office.

A few days ago I received an email that I want to share with you. Often we do not know the impact of the publications we distribute or how many lives are touched, or how many babies are saved with the help of your donations. Here is one testimony among many:
Dear Presbyterians Pro-Life,
I just want to say that I have a tremendous amount of respect for the work your organization has done to preserve the lives of unborn children. Your "Life: A Biblical Perspective" page was paramount in helping my youngest sister understand the importance of keeping her child and for that I am very grateful. You have touched our family in a way that will affect us for the rest of our lives.
Beth's thanks really goes to you, our financial supporters. What PPL does with your help is ministry that affects real women and their unborn babies. Won't you continue to give generously so that we will not falter in this important work?
