Resolution Information for 2017 Synod Assembly

One avenue of access for congregations, conferences, synod organizational units and voting members to address issues and propose a plan for action is the resolution. Resolutions help organize the work of the assembly by clarifying important issues or concerns. Resolutions are first reviewed by the Reference and Counsel Committee, which will make recommendations to the assembly to facilitate its work, but the resolutions belong to the assembly and may be amended, rejected,  or adopted after consideration by the voting members. Resolutions may be submitted until 45 days prior to the first day the assembly meets.  For the 2017 Synod Assembly, resolutions must be in the synod office by April 4, 2017. Please read the Writing A Resolution Guide 2017 found by clicking the button below.

Please send resolutions to:

'Luther and the Reformation' Travel Documentary Available to Congregations
For years, Rick Steves has had his sights on 2017. As the 500th anniversary of the Reformation approached, the travel guide knew he wanted to create for his popular PBS series a special devoted to Martin Luther and the ways in which his tumultuous time helped lead to the Modern Age.

Steves' "Luther and the Reformation" is airing throughout 2017. It's available to watch online at, along with resources for hosting congregational screenings of the film, including ELCA discussion points and study questions, a special introductory video from Steves, and art and video clips to promote your event. Rostered Leaders Gathering
Join keynote speakers Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton, The Rev. Dr. James Alexander Forbes Jr., and Rachel Held Evans for worship, education, and fellowship. Gathered under the theme of “On the Way…Together,” inspired by the road to Emmaus story (Luke 24:13-35), we will focus on how we are #inthistogether. As we continue to deepen our ecumenical partnerships, confront racism and boldly respond to the needs of the world, this gathering provides the opportunity for leaders to gather and explore what God has in store for us.

2017 Synod Assembly
Praise God that there is no sin, illness or difficulty in life that exceeds the ability of Jesus Christ - the one who reveals God's power and works to us - to forgive, heal or resolve.
