On April 2nd, with the support of the current board of directors, as well as active past NEMRA chairman, NEMRA authored and sent out the email below with the attached “NEMRA’s Call for Support” letter to our manufacturer’s, underscoring the importance of their support, outreach and collaboration with their NEMRA representatives.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

To our manufacturing partners,

Together, we are facing a truly unprecedented situation. The global coronavirus pandemic is affecting all of our families, our businesses, our communities, and our way of life.

First and foremost, from NEMRA and our leadership team, our hearts go out to anyone, who's been impacted by the virus, either directly or indirectly.

I am truly inspired by the selfless individuals who are on the front lines working tirelessly to ensure that our businesses remain operational and, as essential businesses, servicing our customers.

During this time, I wanted to share a few collective thoughts with you from myself, the NEMRA Board and Past NEMRA Chairman.

As we go forward, we’ll be sure to keep you updated, and know that we always value your questions, ideas and feedback.

It is equally important that each of you are consistently and actively engaged in regular, proactive communications with all of your manufacturers. As one of our service providers suggested, “now is the time to be conducting regular CBR’s” (Covid Business Reviews).



That is, keeping all of your manufacturers apprised of your changing landscape and the implications these have on your projected sales, sharing the details of your impact planning, providing data that highlights your ongoing activities and engagement with both the customers and your employees (webinars, phone outreach, product support, training, etc.) and discussing opportunities/projects you are currently engaged in that will materialize once business begins

to resume to normal.



We have also assembled quite a resource page that contains all of the communications we have sent and links to a number of tools and resources available to assist you through this

time. The links to many of the resource pages are live so, as each day brings changes, links to the SBA and IRS, for example, will reflect the most current information. Be sure to check here often.

It is very important to keep in mind that our industry typically lags what we see in the market by up to 60 days. So, whether you are already severely impacted or not, please don’t underestimate the financial impact this pandemic will bring in the coming months, which makes it only appropriate that, in the context of these CBR’s, one should also take the time to talk about creative measures, that keep you “whole” or “partially whole”, now and throughout the coming months, so you do not terminally suffer from a financial short fall caused by factors outside of your control. An example of one such discussion would be a commission draw.



While many manufacturers have their own legal contractual agreements, and undoubtedly will author their own, we’ve attached a template, from which you could begin this conversation with them.




The key? Over communicate with, and to, your manufacturers, at all levels. Present how you have adapted and are now conducting business differently, uniquely and effectively keeping their brand in front of the customers and what, if any, resources may be needed to support those efforts.
