Ty Paxton and Jeremy Dubow
Opening Reception January 19, 2017

The Chi Has Been Harnessed          Ty Paxton

Ty Paxton has always been drawn to impressionism, appreciating works by Monet and van Gogh at an early age.  To him, this approach to art is somewhat analogous to looking at life.  "Up close, we only see a few brush strokes.  We're right there, we're in the moment.  But if we breathe and take a step back, we're able to see the whole picture."  His love for trees and nature coupled with an affinity for an impressionistic approach led him to his passion for creating treescapes and nature scenes.  In addition to this, he has a significant fascination with eyes and the stories they tell.  "I find it extraordinary how eyes can communicate so much emotion and energy without making a sound.  To me, they're the most beautiful part of the human anatomy; silent instruments of emotion."

Dr. Deepali Mahanta Kayal
January 12 - February 25, 2017

A doctor by profession, Deepali Mahanta Kayal started painting at a young age after she won a national level painting competition. She has honed her skills over a period of time at several places: New Delhi, Jaipur, Chennai, and Guwahati in India. She has explored a variety of forms and experimented with different techniques and styles. Her engagement with various morbid conditions of her patients has not dampened her spirits, but rather inspired her to search for hidden beauty, pathos, and meaning in our day-to-day lives. Indian folklore, mythology, and philosophy have been recurring themes in her work. She firmly believes that art is the quest for self-expression and truth. Dr. Kayal currently lives in Madhya Pradesh, India.

Yes, it's true!  After a lovely rest for the intrepid volunteers over Christmas and New Year's, Boxx Gallery is open again during the regular, terribly civilized hours of 11- 4 on Saturdays.  Make your way out to Tieton, it's lovely and cold!  Come by the gallery for eye candy and fun conversation, then run by Santos Bakery for a chocolate doughnut (just eat it fast, before anyone sees you) and lunch at Fernando's.  I recommend chicken enchiladas, though I've heard the chiles relleños are fab. Really....what more could you ask for on a January Saturday?
