STUDIO NEWS
Summer 2016

Life has been very full in the past year! Last summer and fall,  I traveled, painted and held workshops in Sweden, Italy and Ireland; my work has been influenced by each of these experiences. I've had some excellent exhibition opportunities, including a two- person show in Atlanta this spring. And my website has been newly updated to include my newest series, with a Featured page highlighting the latest news.

I'm currently working on a book, Cold Wax Medium: Techniques, Concepts & Conversations, with my co-author, Jerry McLaughlin, to be published late this year.  All of this, plus planning ahead for 2017 and beyond has kept me very busy. Please scroll down for details on current and upcoming events, and to find out more about the book. Thank you very much for following my work.

Available in late 2016:
Cold Wax Medium: Techniques, Concepts & Conversations by Rebecca Crowell and Jerry McLaughlin
We are very excited to announce this comprehensive, extensively researched and fully illustrated book, which highlights the work of nearly 100 artists from around the world. It includes how-to and technical information as well as thoughtful commentary and ideas throughout.
In order to print enough books to meet our expected demand, we will be launching a crowd-funding campaign in early July. As part of our campaign, we'll be offering some exciting perks. These include early-release, signed copies, and two workshops in May, 2017, co-taught by Jerry and myself at my studio in Wisconsin. Please click the button to learn more, and to join our mailing list for first notification of new developments.

Workshop News: 2016

Currently, my only workshop with availability in 2016 is Stretching Further into Abstraction, to be held Aug, 14-19 in Gloucester, MA. This class is for experienced artists working in any 2-D medium, with a focus on personal voice and a deeper understanding of abstraction. The historic town of Gloucester provides a beautiful seaside setting for this workshop.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
New Zealand /January or February: I am working on plans for two cold wax workshops; locations TBA. These will be all-level classes (beginner to advanced) and organized by Cullowhee Mountain Arts. Please email Norma Hendrix to be put on the mailing list. These workshops are NOT confirmed at this point but feel free to express your interest and desire for more info when it becomes available.

Taos, New Mexico/ Mabel Dodge Luhan House/ mid-April: This workshop, A Sense of Place, is an exceptional opportunity for visual artists to retreat, learn and share their perceptions and responses to the landscape of Taos. We will stay in the historic and atmospheric Mabel Dodge Luhan house, where artists, writers, dancers, and great thinkers gathered in the past. Please email Norma Hendrix to express interest.

My studio, Osseo, Wisconsin/ May: Two 4-day cold wax workshops for all levels of experience will be offered as part of the crowd-funding campaign that Jerry McLaughlin and I are launching in early July for our upcoming cold wax book. We will co-teach these workshops; participants will have available the full range of our combined knowledge and experience. Sign up here to receive notice of the launch of our campaign and the opportunity to register. We'll be announcing the campaign very soon. (Please do not contact me directly about these workshop sessions.) The six places in each session will be offered on a first-come, first served basis, exclusively via participation in crowd-funding.  (Note: these are the only workshops at my studio currently scheduled for 2017.)

Cullowhee Mountain Arts Summer Series, Cullowhee, North Carolina/ June: This is a week-long, intensive, advanced cold wax workshop, part of the exciting Summer Arts Series hosted by Cullowhee Mountain Arts. Please email Norma Hendrix to express interest, and click here for the current season to see the type of programming offered. I have just returned from my 2016 session and as always, it was a full and enriching experience. This class fills quickly--some people return every year.

Drezzo, Italy, Cascina Rodiani / August:  I am planning two 6-day, all-level cold wax workshops at a beautiful historic inn in northern Italy near Como, with rustic open-air atelier. The location is the same as for the previous 2015 class, but I am planning longer sessions this time to fully savor the experience. You may email me to express interest. (Please do not contact the venue at this time.) This workshop is still in the planning stages but I will have more information soon for those considering the workshop.

County Mayo, Ireland, Ballinglen Arts Foundation/ October: Two all-level, week-long cold wax workshops at a wonderful artist residency/workshop facility, located in a small Irish village. The sessions include independent work time as well as intensive instruction in a new, dedicated studio building, which is available 24/7. Optional field trips to explore the ancient and dramatic landscape of beautiful Co. Mayo will be arranged. Please email Una Forde to express interest, or click here to see the type of programming offered. (My 2016 workshops are full.)

**Note regarding workshops at my studio in Wisconsin:  Due to heavy scheduling and the need to pursue my own work, I am not currently scheduling any workshops at my studio other than the two mentioned above in May. But things can change, so feel free to email me if you are interested. And please indicate whether you are new to cold wax or have had previous instruction. (If you have already let me know of your interest for 2017, no need to email again.)
