Companion Congregation Workshop Planned For Leadership Academy
Breakout session to focus on ways to improve Companion Congregation relationships

The WIS Companion Synod Network will be conducting a “Nuts and Bolts of Companion Congregation Relationships” breakout session at the upcoming WIS Leadership Academy Pastors and lay leaders from congregations that are already in a Companion Congregation relationship or from congregations considering such a relationship are encouraged to attend.

During the CSN breakout session, the notion of accompa-niment as the founda-tion for CC and CS relationships will be discussed. The blessings that flow from companion relationships will be explored. Best practices for communication will be presented and participants will be able to ask questions regarding CC relationships.

Other opportunities will also be available at the Leadership Academy. Bishop Roger Gustafson of the Central States Synod will serve as the keynote speaker. Besides the breakout on CC Relationships, the Academy will also offer sessions on Faith Formation, writing devotions, human resources, church council basics, Facebook, technology in worship and others will be offered.

WIS Youth Headed To Tanzania In July

Preparation for the Tanzania 2016 Youth Trip has begun!  The first meeting of youth, parents and adult sponsors was held the end of January.  Devotions opened the gathering.  Introductions were made and then ice breakers to start making connections and building relationships.  A brief history of the relationship between the Southern Diocese and WIS helped introduce everyone to how this began and where we are currently.

Finally the members of the group walked through the paperwork and requirements needed to get ready for a trip covering passports, shots, and costs.

Fund raising is taking place in the congregations sending youth on this trip.  The cost is high (gifts are accepted!) but the learning and exposure these 9 young people will receive can have life long impact and meaning.

Details are still be worked out between the Diocese and the Synod so the exact itinerary is still a work in progress.  The youth and the adults going with them will meet again in April.
