REMINDER:  Microsoft and/or Apple will NEVER call you out of the blue, they will NEVER cause a window to appear on your device warning you that it's infected and that you should not turn it off or you'll lose everything.  These are SCAMS.

Have a terrific week!

Easy! If you have our icon on your desktop and it's labeled "4KCC Help Portal" then you have the new software.  If you have any icon other than that one, you'll need the new software.

Question of the Week

Question: "John, I just watched your webinar about the phone apps. We just returned from a road trip. I have AroundMe installed on my phone. So, I was looking for a gas station and it told me that I was not connected to the internet and could not help me. How do I get on the internet from my car?"

This is a great follow-up question to our webinar, "5 Cool Smartphone Apps Everyone Should Have."  (Click on the webinar title to watch the webinar if you didn't get to see it.)

The reason our customer got this message is because his phone wasn't allowing AroundMe to access the Internet through cellular data.  There would have been two ways for him to use AroundMe: 1) pull into the parking lot of one of the fast food chains or similar places that give you free Wi-Fi.  Once on the Wi-Fi, AroundMe would have worked. 2) allow AroundMe to access the Internet using cellular data.

(Note: allowing apps to access the Internet via cellular data will count towards your monthly data usage plan limit, if there is one.  Be careful with the options outlined here so you don't run up costly overage charges.)

On smartphones, you can turn cellular data on and off for every app on your phone or you can regulate just one particular app's access.  Here's how:

On the iPhone

1)  Tap Settings.

2) Scroll to find "Cellular" and press the arrow on the right.

3) At the top, if "Cellular Data" is turned off, slide it on.

4) Once on, scroll down and turn cellular data on or off for each individual apps.

On Android Phones

1) Tap Settings

2) Tap Data Usage

3) On the next screen, make sure you're on the "Mobile" tab then click the "More" button.

4) From the Menu that appears, tap on "Restrict Background Data."

5) Tap "Ok" to confirm.

If you only want to restrict certain apps, follow steps 1 & 2 above, then:

3a) On the next screen, make sure you're on the "Mobile" tab.

4a) Now, Scroll down and tap on the app for which you want to "Restrict Mobile Data."

5a) On the next screen, Toggle On the option for "Restrict Background Data."

That's it for this week's Question of the Week!

Forward to a Friend

If you're grandparents like Joyce and I are, you probably like to give unique gifts at Christmastime.  Here's another great ornament for the tree this year!  As I mentioned last week, Joyce is famous for giving gifts that are "different" and "unique."  As I mentioned, she uses great websites like  (We loved this site so much, we became affiliates.  If you click and buy, we make a buck!) Here, she first finds "the gift" for the person she has in mind.  Then, she personalizes it and that makes our gift stand out.  Why not take a moment to click on the ornament and see how easy it is to personalize?
