In Kind Offering
The ELCA Youth Gathering has recognized the need to lift up literacy in Houston. Building a foundation of literacy starts before entering kindergarten. Students who read at home become strong writers, critical thinkers, and more successful students than those who do not. Houston Independent School District estimates that 74% of the students in the district come from families who struggle to provide books for their children. This means the students begin each school year at a disadvantage.
In joining the Gathering's Blast Off for Books campaign, you will help ensure bright futures for Houston's students. The books you donate will be distributed at community book fairs, camps and other events around the city as part of the Gathering's Service Learning experience. By putting books in the hand's of Houston's economically disadvantaged students, you can help change lives.
Please see flyer or our Amazon Wish List for a list of books we will be collecting for the children of Houston. Note, we will only accept these books (new or lightly used).
Parking at the Sioux City Convention Center
Parking at the convention center will be a little different this year. The parking lot to the east is under construction for a new hotel which is scheduled to open Fall of 2019. Thus parking will be available south of the convention center, street parking, or the two parking ramps west of the convention center. You can find out more about those ramps below.

If you are a vendor or have a display, you may unload in the u shaped driveway on the west side of the entrance. No convention center carts can be taken through the glass doors. Use of those carts must be made through a NW door near kitchen area.

Training Opportunity!!

ALICE Training - Active Shooter Awareness

ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) provides preparation and a plan for individuals and organizations on how to more proactively handle the threat of an aggressive intruder or active shooter event. ALICE Training option based tactics have become the accepted response, versus the traditional “lockdown only” approach.

A variety of factors may have an impact on your religious institution’s safety. As the leadership, you must ask, “How would our institution react, survive and cope, if we came under attack from a violent intruder?”

For places of worship, safety is assumed upon entering. Worrying about an active shooter is not among most people’s thoughts as they enter their religious community. Because of this, church security and emergency preparedness has to be something that religious leaders take into consideration as the day to day operations of their churches are carried out. If you are planning on attending the ALICE training, please register!!! Please register at the link below if you are planning to attend this important training.
