Registration Reminder
We're looking forward to the start of our virtual fall session on Sunday, October 4! Please let us know you are planning to participate by submitting your registration before September 30. We are happy to resend your invitation email with enrollment instructions if you're not finding it in your inbox (sent August 28). Just let us know!

On the Fence about MYC this Fall?
Talk to us! We can answer your questions and help describe what virtual choir will feel like in a few weeks. One thing we know: being together virtually will be better than not being together at all and we plan to make the most of our time together. It won't feel like school and we hope it's the time in your week you most look forward to. That's our goal.

One question is popping up a lot in our email and has been added to the FAQ:
Q: If I don't join this fall can I come back when we're meeting in person?
A: The answer, of course, is yes. BUT, since we don't know when we will be able to be back together in person, we really encourage you to not postpone or base your participation on whether we're meeting virtually or in person. Just like in a traditional season, your experience is always enhanced by participating for the full year and we don't want anyone to miss out on this fall session "because it's virtual." Come and be part of your singing community--your voice is important!

Do You Know Someone Interested in Joining (or Rejoining) MYC?
We are inviting students in grades five and above interested in joining (or rejoining) MYC this fall to meet with us for a brief chat and a little singing on Sunday, September 20. Our goal in these short virtual meetings is to get to know each student a bit, hear their voice, and answer any questions they might have about MYC. If you know someone interested in joining MYC this fall, please share this opportunity with them and direct them to our Join a Choir page where they can make a reservation to meet with us. A silver lining in our virtual fall plan is we're not constrained by geography--this opportunity is open to any student (grade 5-12), regardless of where they live. Thank you for sharing widely!

Madison Opera High School Apprentice Program
Madison Opera’s High School Apprentice Program offers high school juniors and seniors the unique opportunity to explore the world of professional opera and receive a thorough introduction to the production process and careers in the performing arts.  Many former apprentices have gone on to sing in the Madison Opera Chorus and MYC has a long history of participation with this amazing program.

Deadline to apply is September 30.

Please visit Madison Opera for everything you need to know and to complete the application.

A special note from Lisa Kjentvet (Choraliers and Capriccio) to all of MYC:

Welcome back MYC singers and families! We have missed you and are so looking forward to our MYC family reuniting in a few short weeks! We are busy planning for your return and are excited to get back to sharing our voices, exploring ideas and building our community. As we come back together, may we be grateful for the gift to sing and the power of music to give light to our days.

The Gift to Sing

James Weldon Johnson –  1871-1938

Sometimes the mist overhangs my path,
And blackening clouds about me cling;
But, oh, I have a magic way
To turn the gloom to cheerful day
I softly sing.

And if the way grows darker still,
Shadowed by Sorrow’s somber wing,
With glad defiance in my throat,
I pierce the darkness with a note,
And sing, and sing.

I brood not over the broken past,
Nor dread whatever time may bring;
No nights are dark, no days are long,
While in my heart there swells a song,
And I can sing.
