Dear --FNAME--,

Summer is in full swing and so is the Nature Center! Kids of all ages are having a blast at our specialty summer camps, and there are more exciting opportunities to get out and explore the marsh with a naturalist this summer. Bring your family and friends for a walk on the boardwalk, pack a picnic, and enjoy the many sights and sounds of nature.

Fungal Threats to Biodiversity:
Emerging Pathogens and Their Ecological Consequences

Visit Millbrook Marsh Nature Center on
Wed., August 3 from 7- 8 PM for a presentation & discussion by Christopher Smyth, PSU Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology PhD Candidate.

Fungi have long been known for their devastating impacts on agricultural crops, but only recently have they gained recognition for their increasing threat to animal biodiversity. With changing environmental conditions and increasing human impact, we have seen the widespread emergence of ecologically devastating fungal diseases causing unprecedented die-offs in a variety of animal species. We will delve into the biology of several of these emerging diseases, such as white nose syndrome in bats, chytridiomycosis in amphibians, snake fungal disease, sea fan aspergillosis and sea turtle egg fusariosis.  Christopher will discuss the research and mitigation efforts to combat these diseases and control, or even prevent, resulting losses of biodiversity. We hope to see you there! Free, donations appreciated.
