Greetings from CoachDeck!

In this issue: We bring you the second half of New York Mets Hitting Coach Dave Hudgens' article on cues and techniques to help hitters and their coaches. Brian Gotta's "Win, or Be the Star?" examines what motivates kids to play sports and how coaches can keep them playing. And John Ellsworth's "Getting More Playing Time" is a must-read for parents who feel their youngsters are not receiving as much time on the field as they deserve.

Here are two fantastic ideas we found on league websites, which you may wish to try. First, Orange (CA) LL has an awesome home run recognition page that's very special. Next is Cheyenne (NV) LL's "My Positive Experience" page, which allows coaches and parents to tell about great things they've seen or experienced.

I would like to think all parents want this, but some miss the point and are more focused on what sports can provide in return. What is the message we are giving to our kids about sport participation? Read Article

Key Cues for Hitting Success (Part 2)
by Dave Hudgens, New York Mets Hitting Coach

A hitter having a proper take is another tool for the hitting instructor to evaluate. When my hitters take a pitch, I like to see them stay balanced with their weight - not going too far forward. I like to see 50/50 or 60/40 with a little bit of movement back to the ball. Read Article
