At the 2019 ELCA Churchwide Assembly, a resolution was adopted in support of the World Council of Churches Thursdays in Black Campaign. This campaign encourages people to wear black on Thursdays to raise awareness about gender-based violence and the need to stand in solidarity against rape and violence. The Office of the Bishop has buttons available for congregations or groups who participate.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Individuals, congregations, and neighbors are invited to join in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, January 18-25. The 2020 theme is “They Showed Us Unusual Kindness” (cf. Acts 28:2). Annually, leaders of faith communities throughout the world gather together to arrive at the theme for the annual celebration of Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This year the theme finds its origins in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 27:18-28:10).

Pray that wherever the weather turns cold and damp, all people will have the warmth and safety of shelter, and that where shelter is absent or difficult to find, the love and generosity of God dwelling in us will move us to create and open shelters in our congregations, community spaces and homes.
