Celebration of Life
Buy Your Tickets or Be A Sponsor Now!

At MPV, we not only work hard to champion human rights, we work hard to ensure that the legacies of human rights activists around the globe live on. It is in that spirit that we are holding our first annual “Celebration of Life” event on January 24th, 2016. We want to welcome you to join us as we honour the sacrifices made by the likes of Raif Badawi, Farkhunda Malikzada, Sabeen Mahmud, and others who have given up their freedoms, and often, their lives, to stand for the virtues of freedom and justice.

Speakers include:
  • Keith Ellison (US Congressman)
  • Ensaf Haidar (Raif Badawi Foundation Founder and wife of Saudi Blogger Raif Badawi)
  • Dr. David Kaye (UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Freedom of Opinion and Expression)
  • Dr. Reza Aslan (Author and Professor)

Celebration of Life” is a unique look into the lives of these activists, whose stories will be told by celebrity guests who will assume the role of the activist on stage and deliver a compelling monologue. In addition to musical performances (including a duet by Keith Ellison and Ani Zonneveld), poetry, and dance, we will hold a celebration that is worthy of the sacrifices made by these brave and passionate souls. Please join us as we shine a beacon of light in the darkness of the night.

Help us celebrate life.

MPV spoke on holding men accountable in our community for spreading bigotry and how we tackle misogynist interpretations of the Qur'an at the grassroots and global level with our ‪#‎ImamsForShe‬ initiative.

Watch the webinar to also hear the incredible insight of Emiliano Diaz de Leon from the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault and of Chuck Derry, co-founder of the Gender Violence institute in Clearwater, Minnesota on how they prevent gender violence and promote ‪gender equality‬.

MPV Press Release
Muslims for Progressive Values Strongly Condemns Charges Against Dr. Islam Behery

Muslims for Progressive Values (MPV) strongly condemns the charges held against Dr. Islam Behery.

Dr. Islam Behery is an Egyptian television host and scholar who has been charged with “defaming” religious beliefs for questioning the validity of hadith sources on his show “With Islam” and is facing five years in prison.

We believe that no one should be persecuted, imprisoned or detained for declaring or promoting unpopular opinions whether political, artistic, social or religious, even when that expression may be regarded as offensive and that dissent may be considered blasphemous. We therefore urge Egypt to repeal its criminal defamation laws, which are often utilized to penalize individuals who voice critique against state authorities or religious institutions.

Join Muslims for Progressive Values in supporting freedom of expression and freedom of and from religion and belief by signing the #FatwaOnFEAR petition.

MPV Press Release
MPV Strongly Condemns the Stoning of Rokhshana

Muslims for Progressive Values (MPV) strongly condemns the stoning of 19-year-old Rokhshana of Ghor Province in Afghanistan. MPV denounces the practice of all corporal punishments (such as stoning, lashing and flogging) and the death penalty in the name of Islam that is inflicted upon those accused of extramarital relations. While the Qur’an prohibits adultery, under no circumstances does it establish the death penalty of stoning as a form of punishment for adultery or for any prohibited acts.
