#GivingTuesday
In these past weeks many of us have found ourselves wondering how we might bring a little more light and love into our world. Especially in a culture that is divided and uncertain of what the future holds, we are drawn relentlessly to the light of God who calls us out to shine forth with the good news of God's love and life for all.

Join the Southeastern Iowa Synod in shining forth God's light by donating to our Forward Together campaign on Giving Tuesday, November 29, a day in which we can stand against the false hope of consumerism by making a true difference in the name of Christ.

Report your Mission Support Intent
Your ministry partners in the ELCA invite you to make a statement of intent to synod and churchwide ministries for 2017. As you consider your commitment, please note this invitation models the spiritual practices of regular reflection and faithful response to God's abundant grace. We encourage each expression of the church (households, congregations and synods) to engage in these practices regularly. In this way we move beyond ourselves to do God's work together. You can find stories of our work together in Stories of Faith in Action.

Click the button below to fill out the mission support intent form and send it back to the Southeastern Iowa Synod's Office of the Bishop (2635 Northgate Dr Iowa City IA 52245)

Living Lutheran: Seeing Jesus in the face of the other
Lutherans worldwide, through ELCA members and partners such as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service and The Lutheran World Federation, have made welcoming and caring for migrants and refugees a priority. Living Lutheran's November cover story, "Seeing Jesus in the face of the other," explores some of the root causes leading to the increase in global migration and how the church is addressing these issues.

The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, presiding bishop of the ELCA, and leaders from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, the Anglican Church of Canada, and The Episcopal Church have prepared a series of Advent devotions for members of the four denominations.

"May our prayers united be a modest but hopeful sign of what our churches can do together as we bear witness to the One who first reconciled himself to us."

Martin Luther: Art and the Reformation
Five hundred years ago, one man took a stand that shook Europe and changed the world. Now you can see the story of Martin Luther and the Reformation brought to life through astonishing artworks and historical objects, traveling outside of Germany for the first time ever. Luther used art and the newly invented printing press to challenge Europe's leaders and spread a revolution of religious, cultural, and societal change. This exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, gold, textiles, and works on paper - as well as s Luther's personal possessions and recent archaeological finds - that shed new light on an explosive era and the man who ignited it.

This exhibit is open now through January 15, 2017, at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

REMEMBER IN PRAYER
Pastor  Dave Aanonson as he recovers from surgery.

We give thanks and praise to God in our prayers for all that we have received that sustains us, contributes to our joy and fullness of life, equips us to serve our neighbor and enables us to respond generously to people in need in our communities and globally.
