Open House Weekend With MYC
We are looking forward to welcoming MYC families to our Open House rehearsals this weekend! Please note: ALL rehearsals are off-site, i.e., NOT at Westgate and some ensembles are meeting at slightly altered times. Calendars have been updated and details are included below.

    4:00 - 5:30PM    Choraliers | Con Gioia
    5:45 - 7:00PM    Ragazzi | Capriccio (note altered rehearsal times)
    7:15 - 8:30PM    Cantilena | Cantabile (note altered rehearsal times)

    5:30 - 7:00PM    Purcell | Britten
    7:15 - 8:45PM    Holst

*The main entrance to Good Shepherd is accessed from Whitney Way, not Raymond Road. Park in the main parking lot and enter on the south side of the building (main doors).

The Big Red Box will be at our Open House rehearsals if you need to submit forms, make a tuition payment, or turn in a coffee order, etc.

If you need to report an absence or late arrival, please complete the on-line absence form linked in the header section above. As a safety measure, if your singer is not checked in at rehearsal and we have not heard they will be absent, we will call you to verify the absence. The best way to reach us during rehearsals is via the MYC cell phone: 608-770-7464.

Keep reading for all the details you need to know!

Quick Details for Open House Weekend
Arrival
Both locations: Midvale Lutheran (Sunday) and Good Shepherd Lutheran (Monday), have ample parking on site. Please look at Google maps for specific directions. Midvale Lutheran is accessed via Tokay Boulevard and Good Shepherd Lutheran is accessed via S Whitney Way. Look for our red MYC signs at the parking entrances!

Once inside, please go directly with your singer to their rehearsal, make a name tag and find a seat. We'll have volunteers directing you to the correct space!

Enjoy Rehearsal then Social Time
We hope many of you will take advantage of this opportunity to observe your singer's rehearsal (in relative comfort) to gain a better understanding of MYC's rehearsal process and educational priorities all while enjoying the music! You'll hear from your singer's conductor and have a chance to ask questions.

At some point during the second half of rehearsal, you'll be invited to enjoy social time with other MYC families outside of the rehearsal space. You're always welcome to continue observing rehearsal. We just ask that no food or drink comes into the rehearsal space.

When rehearsal ends please find your singer and enjoy the ride home discussing all that you learned and observed together! Since groups will be arriving and departing at approximately the same time, thank you in advance for making space for the next group to arrive in a timely manner.

We're looking forward to seeing you this weekend!

Rehearsal Parent Opportunities this Semester
Do you know how to smile and say hello while holding a pencil and clipboard?

We would love your welcoming demeanor to fill our open rehearsal parent slots for this semester! Responsibilities may be shared between two or more volunteers, if desired, (taking turns every other week, for example).
  • Purcell
  • Capriccio
  • Con Gioia (shared)
  • Cantilena

Rehearsal parents arrive 10-15 minutes before rehearsal begins, take attendance and ensure we have been in contact with families of absent singers. If you are interested in volunteering for this rewarding role (you will meet a lot of singers and their parents!), please email Ian for more information. Thanks!

Spring Introductory Choir
For students ages 7-10, new sessions of introductory choir begin mid-February and registration is open on our website under the Join A Choir tab. Completing introductory choir is the first step toward joining a year-long choir for singers this age.

Coffee
January orders are due Monday, January 22. (We will have the Big Red Box for submitting orders at our Open House!) Orders will be available for pick up at rehearsals January 28 and 29. Families receive $5/unit sold toward their fundraising contribution goal.

Madison Boychoir Festival
February 24, 2018 | West High School, Madison

Members of Purcell, Britten, Holst and Ragazzi play host to hundreds of fellow singers from all over Madison and southern Wisconsin at our 7th Annual Madison Boychoir Festival on Saturday, February 24. Please be reminded:

  • This is on your MYC calendar;
  • it's a required event (please plan ahead!);
  • we need to hear from you via the on-line absence form if you have an immovable, unavoidable conflict;
  • MYC singers DO NOT need to register; we are already planning you will be participating (see above!)
  • The FREE, public concert showcasing the festival's 400+ participants begins at 12:30pm. We are finished around 1:15pm.

This is not only an amazing day for our singers and the community; it's an amazing day filled with logistical victories made possible by our excellent volunteers--YOU! Please consider joining us!

Choir! Choir! Choir!
Parents: Choir! Choir! Choir! is coming to Madison. This community experience started in Canada as a weekly drop-in singing event and combines group building, singing, and comedy. You get a lyric sheet at the door, they teach you a vocal arrangement, and record a video of the evening! It's usually a familiar pop song (think Queen, Prince, The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Talking Heads, etc.)

Saturday, February 24, 5PM, at High Noon Saloon.
