With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it can be easy to forget that some families are not in a position to celebrate. Economic, health-related or situational hardships can make it almost impossible to focus on gifts, giving and gathering with family.

At Caridad Center, we try to help all of our clients remember this is a time for joy, and that Palm Beach County can be a generous community that loves to share. We invite our friends and supporters to help us make the season truly bright for our neighbors in need in three easy ways:
  • Adopt A Beautiful Family: Caridad’s Adopt A Family program allows our patients to enjoy the holidays with gifts donated by community groups or individuals that “adopt” them. Local corporations, hospitals, churches, individuals or families select a Caridad family and purchase presents for each member. If you’d like to adopt a family or for more information, please contact Scarlett Fave at 561-737-6336, ext 115 or sfave@caridad.org.
  • Give a Holiday Gift: On Dec. 19, children will arrive for “Meet Santa Day,” when they will pick out two gifts, enjoy snacks, and of course, have a very important chat with Santa Claus. The deadline for dropping off toys is Dec. 16
  • Make a Lasting Donation: All year, Caridad accepts gifts from donors that allow our 400 medical, dental and social service volunteers to provide quality, compassionate care to the uninsured working poor of Palm Beach County. Every gift matters. To find out more, click here.

Caridad Center has been an important part of my life for 14 years, ever since I started as a volunteer translator and clerical assistant. Now, as the Director of Social Services, I have the opportunity to help thousands of our community’s residents with resources and programs that literally change lives.
Caridad’s Social Services Department reflects our holistic approach to helping people by providing food, clothing, shoes, personal care items, scholarships and funds for school trips, emergency assistance for rent, utilities and food and many other social services. This critical assistance not only helps to break the cycle of poverty for the families we serve, but it also brings a sense of comfort and community to our clients.
During the holidays, I’m proud to oversee the Adopt A Family and Meet Santa Day programs. Bringing joy and holiday spirit to our families is part of providing a healthy environment and celebrating the hope that makes life worth living. It is a very special responsibility to share that with our Caridad clients, and part of why I love my job so much.

Caridad gave the gift of sight to 22 patients this Thanksgiving season, through delicate eye surgeries performed by Eye Associates of Boca Raton in November. Granting access to life changing surgeries for people who cannot afford these services is just part of what Caridad and its amazing doctor volunteers can do. To watch more courtesy of CBS, click here

"I came to Caridad Center when I was a kid. My parents migrated to the US and Caridad Center was a place my mom sought healthcare and it was given to her. I am now back myself, not to seek care for myself, but as an employee. It is great to be part of this Clinic that has given so much not only to my family when we needed it, but to many other families in similar conditions to mine and worse."
