If you need to report an absence or late arrival, please complete the on-line absence form linked in the header section above. As a safety measure, if your singer is not checked in at rehearsal and we have not heard they will be absent, we will call you to verify the absence. The best way to reach us during rehearsals is via the MYC cell phone: 608-770-7464.

Keep reading for all the details you need to know!

One more week!
There's still time to email friends and family, post to Facebook or make a phone call. Don't underestimate the value of your personal MYC story and the power of including people who care about how you spend your time. Read through the information packet, follow the steps and you'll see how easy it is.

Reminders for this week:
As you receive responses, please keep your donations organized and with you until turn-in day on March 18/19.

Record each donation on your tracking sheet: both those made by check and those made via the electronic form. (If you are wondering whether an electronic donation has been made, feel free to contact us.) Remember: every donation made by check requires a completed donor record form.

Need more supplies? Check out the It's MYChoir table at rehearsals or print your own from the It's MYChoir page on our website (under the Members tab).

Say thank you! This is so important! MYC is also providing a thank you along with a receipt but a note from you is the most meaningful.

Remember: the first measure of participation is sharing your MYC story with at least one person outside of your immediate family. Our goal is 100% participation! Just like in rehearsal, every voice matters and your participation is key. (Choraliers continues to lead at 51% with Capriccio a very close second at 50%!)

Not sure whether to use a letter, email or Facebook appeal?
Consider your audience. You know them best.

It's not too late to get started!

Pull out your Family Guide, make a plan and send!

It's MYChoir (IMC) is both a fundraising campaign and an opportunity for members and staff to share with the wider community the importance of music education and the benefits it provides. Because tuition alone covers less than 50% of the total cost of each singer's enrollment, fundraising is a necessary part of MYC membership. We count on families to fully participate and meet their $200 family fundraising goal each year to help cover the tuition gap. Thank you for participating!

Wardrobe Fitting Schedule: March 11 and 12
We will be fitting new MYC singers for their concert wardrobe and MYC polo on the rehearsal dates listed below. We appreciate your cooperation in prioritizing your wardrobe fitting date so everyone can look snazzy on concert day. Thank you for making every effort to take care of this on the date assigned to your ensemble!

Sunday, March 11
3:30 - 5:45pm
New singers in Choraliers, Con Gioia, Capriccio, Cantilena, Cantabile, and Ragazzi. Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes before your rehearsal begins to be fitted.

Monday, March 12
3:30 - 4:45pm
New singers in Purcell, Britten and Holst. Please note: we will need to end fittings promptly at 4:45pm to ensure Studio 4 can be set for rehearsal at 5:30pm. Please arrive no later than 4:30pm to be fitted. Thank you!

Current singers: PLEASE try on your wardrobe. If any pieces no longer fit, please label them with your name, return them to MYC and plan to be re-fitted on the dates listed above. Choraliers and Con Gioia singers: please make sure your dress hits at the knee or below (or just slightly higher).

Con Gioia: Saturday, April 28

We're excited for Con Gioia singers to be able to participate in an incredible collaboration this spring!

MYC and Mt. Zion Baptist Church's youth choir (led by our good friends Leotha and Tamera Stanley, who are well-known to many in the Madison community) will host the CoMUSICation choir from Minnesota. This choir was one of two youth choirs to sing at the Super Bowl this winter!

The details are still somewhat in flux, but here's what we know so far. Please mark your calendar(s) and let us know of any immovable conflicts.

FRIDAY, APRIL 27: MYC will be asking for families to host visiting singers overnight.
SATURDAY, APRIL 28: Late afternoon we'll have a joint rehearsal, social experience, share a meal, and then present an early evening concert together.
SUNDAY, APRIL 29: Interested MYC singers and families are invited to attend Mt. Zion church service where Mt Zion singers, our visiting choir, and MYC singers may sing a joint piece.

Thank you for marking your calendars! Home-stay information along with a sign up will be shared in the coming weeks.

Capriccio to Sing at Sister Cities Event in April
The Sister Cities Collaboration Committee (SCCC) is planning a major event highlighting all nine of Madison's sister cities on Saturday, April 14 at the MATC-Truax Campus and has invited Capriccio to perform. The committee members were impressed by our recent concerts and thought a musical performance, specifically Capriccio singing A Circle is Cast, would be perfect for their celebration.

We will communicate more details in the coming weeks but in the meantime, please save the date: Saturday, April 14, 5:45-7:00 p.m (this has been added to your calendar). If you have an unavoidable conflict, thank you for letting us know via the online absence form. We are looking forward to Capriccio representing Madison Youth Choirs at this significant shindig in April!

Special Opportunity: Opera for the Young
We are looking for treble singers in 2nd-5th grade from Choraliers, Con Gioia, Purcell, and Britten to participate in a great project with our good friends at Opera for the Young. This amazing organization presents shortened versions of classic operas (sung in English with the stories given a modern "twist").

Participants will be performing in Opera for the Young's current tour of "Rusalka" at Family Opera Day on June 2. Margaret Jenks will direct a maximum of 16 singers who can commit to two rehearsals and the performance day at Overture Center for the Arts.

Rehearsals at Westgate, Studio 4
Tuesday, May 29, 4:30-6:00pm
Thursday, May 31, 4:30-6:00pm

Performance at Overture Center for the Arts
Saturday, June 2, likely 11:00am - 2:45pm (11:00 rehearsal, 12:45 audience workshop, 1:30 performance)

Please check your calendars and let us know if you are interested and available by replying to Lisa Kjentvet with your singer's name and choir. Once you volunteer we assume you have checked the dates and can commit to 100% participation. We will confirm each participant once the list is final--thank you!

MYC Intergenerational Choir Concert
Friday, March 16, 7:00PM | Capitol Lakes Grand Hall
Please join members of the MYC Intergenerational Choir as they present a program featuring a blend of classical works, traditional folk songs, and the choir's adopted anthem, Forever Young by Bob Dylan. This concert is free and open to the public.

Spring Break Reminder
As a reminder, we will NOT be rehearsing Sunday, March 25 and April 1; and Monday, March 26. The boychoir WILL BE rehearsing on Monday, April 2. We recognize that our singers represent nearly every school district in Dane County (and beyond) and therefore understand that your spring break may not coincide with these dates. If you are traveling and will be absent during a regularly scheduled rehearsal in the coming weeks, thank you for letting us know in advance using the online absence form.

Run MadTown and Brat Fest Fundraising Opportunities
Both of these events take place Memorial Day Weekend and provide wonderful opportunities to raise money for Madison Youth Choirs (and make advanced progress toward your 2018-19 family fundraising contribution, i.e., NEXT season's goal for singers planning to return.)
