Trout in the Classroom Closes with Trout Release

HFF celebrated a great year of Trout in the Classroom with a field trip to Harriman State Park with Ashton Elementary's 5th grade classes. Over 50 students, teachers, and parents rode a yellow school bus to Thurmon Creek in Harriman State Park to release the young trout the students had been raising all year.

After the release, students visited the Buffalo fish ladder to learn about water quality, fisheries, and water management from HFF staff.

Introducing Our 2016 Summer Interns

With summer on the way, we wanted to take a moment to recognize the incredible work done by our first ever HFF Winter Intern, James Chandler. James started with the Foundation in January of this year, as a recent graduate of St. Lawrence University, and quickly became an invaluable member of the HFF team. James led our winter creel survey to monitor the new angling season below Ashton Dam and downstream of the southern boundary of Harriman State Park. James also assisted with water quality monitoring, fish passage projects at Buffalo and Chester fish ladders, and took some incredible photos and video of the Henry's Fork for all of us to enjoy.

HFF is also welcoming 3 summer interns, Chi Nguyen, a Molecular Biology major from Colgate University, Reid Calhoun, a Chemistry-Engineering major from Washington and Lee University, and Justin Appleby, a Civil Engineering major from Stanford University. We will be selecting a local Byers Memorial Scholarship intern soon to join us from mid-summer through fall.

Jack McLaren will also be working with HFF this summer on work related to water quality monitoring of the Henry's Fork and Island Park Reservoir.  Jack is a graduate student at Indiana University pursuing a dual Master's degree in Environmental Science and Public Affairs.
