TAO's Outreach
Training.  Advocacy.  Outreach.
TAO artists facilitate opportunities for creative self-expression through the arts, for people who have special needs and who are in congregate care settings. We work to help interested artists understand what the needs are and how they can be effective in helping their program participants find their voices.  When participants are actively engaged in the creative process, magic happens.  Socialization, stimulation, inspiration, emotion - the gifts of compassion and creativity can be tremendous.  We are incredibly grateful to the artists who bring so much talent and beauty to the people served through  our programs.
Tidewater Arts Outreach (TAO) is a 501c(3) Virginia not-for-profit corporation. Donations are tax-deductible.  TAO's EIN is 68-0583526.  Find us on GuideStar.
AnchorIs it possible to have too much music in December?  We don't think so!  We're inviting friends to Charlie's Cafe in Riverview, Norfolk on Tuesday, December 16 at 7 pm for a holiday-themed jam and open mic.  Bring your instruments, a bunch of friends and a little cash - we're collecting for The Joy Fund, TAO and Five Points Community  Farm Market.
SHARE Your Story
To kick off Giving Tuesday and our season of giving, please help us start social media conversations about how the arts have impacted your life, how you have been inspired by TAO programs or other insights about arts and health.  People who post and link to us on social media will be entered to win tickets at our Holiday Happening on Dec. 6 to Hurrah Players, Peninsula Fine Arts Center and Virginia Stage Company this December. Thank you!

The Rise in Well-Being in Public Health - from the W.H.O.
The World Health Organization’s own definition of health, enshrined in its 1948 constitution, emphasized a positive understanding: ‘a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease.’ Despite this holistic conception, sustaining such a vision of health has proved difficult. However, recent years have witnessed a re-assertion of this vision and a re-invigoration of the concept of well-being.  - read more -
Coloring - it's not just for kids anymore
The practice of coloring generates wellness, quietness and also stimulates brain areas related to motor skills, the senses and creativity.
