This Weekend with MYC
Sunday, April 2, regular rehearsals at Westgate Studios
  • Ragazzi rehearses from 4:15-6:15; Cantabile from 6:30-8:45pm

If you need to report an absence or late arrival, please complete the online absence form linked in the header section above. As a safety measure, if your singer is not checked in at rehearsal and we have not heard they will be absent, we will call you to verify the absence. The best way to reach us during rehearsals is via the MYC cell phone: 608-770-7464.

Keep reading for all the details you need to know!

Thank you to everyone who has participated!

Reminder:  We will be collecting packets (and any additional donations) at rehearsals this weekend.

What if I got a late start and won't have all my donations collected by this weekend?
Turn in what you have collected by Monday, April 3, and it will count toward your ensemble's total and participation goal. Donations turned in after April 3, will be gratefully accepted but won't count toward individual or ensemble totals. (Can we just say, though, that if you got a late start we applaud--with a standing ovation--your decision to participate. Thank you!)

Finally, don't forget to say thank you! to your donors. This is so important! MYC is also providing a thank you along with a receipt but a note from you is the most meaningful.

Thank you, AWESOME SINGERS and PARENTS for working together on this campaign. We plan to announce your AMAZING results after April 3!

Looking Ahead to Our 2017-18 Season:
Intention Forms and Auditions
Conductors will be spending a few minutes in rehearsals this weekend talking about our audition and placement process for next season as well as giving each singer their individualized intention form to be returned to the MYC office by May 1. The intention form and accompanying information sheet will also be delivered to parents via email early next week. Thank you for carefully reading through this information with your singer and contacting us with any questions or concerns. Your timely return of the intention form and deposit for next season is appreciated as it allows us to better plan for our (amazing!) 2017-18 season which will include performance opportunities with the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Madison Opera as well as the boychoir tour to Scotland in summer 2018.

Spring Outreach Tours
It's time to get on the bus! Our spring outreach tour days are fast approaching (see calendar reminders below) and we are looking forward to performing for thousands of Dane County residents who have invited us to their school or retirement home.

What Happens on Tour Day?
Singers meet at and depart from Westgate Mall around 8am and return around 3pm. Specific itinerary details for each choir are linked below. Each ensemble travels by bus to four different venues throughout the day performing selections from their season repertoire for audience members who might not ever have the opportunity to attend one of our concerts. It's a tremendous day of making music, forging friendships, and building lasting memories together--this day is always remembered as a highlight of the MYC experience for our singers.

Each tour is a full day and we ask that you excuse your singer from school to participate in this important community outreach event. The dates have been published on your calendar since the beginning of the season and we assume each singer is participating as everyone is important to the ensemble: please make sure you have taken note of your singer's tour day and have communicated the absence to your school. If you need a written explanation for the absence, we have provided a brief description linked below.

Tour Dates and Itineraries
Wednesday, April 26: Cantabile and Ragazzi
Thursday, April 27: Cantilena
Monday, May 1: Choraliers
Tuesday, May 2: Purcell and Holst | Con Gioia
Thursday, May 4: Britten

Want to ride along and lend a hand? Parent chaperones are needed for each tour. Please email Lisa Kjentvet with your interest.

We are looking for MYC singers to participate in Opera for the Young's current tour of "The Elixir of Love" at Family Opera Day on June 11. We are looking for 16 singers in grades 2-5 who can commit to two rehearsals and the performance day at Overture Center for the Arts.

Please Try On Your Concert Wardrobe
The best time to do this is NOW so we have time to secure additional wardrobe before the May concert, if necessary. If you need to resize any items, please contact Alyssa

Heartland Youth Choir Visits in June
The Heartland Youth Choir from Des Moines, Iowa will perform an evening concert on Tuesday, June 13, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Middleton. Con Gioia will be joining them in song and we are looking forward to an amazing night of music and new friendships!

Con Gioia: Please check your calendars and let us know via the absence form if you have a conflict.

Would you like to host singers from the Heartland Youth Choir? We are in need of families to provide home stays for 58 singers (21 boys and 37 girls in 5th through 8th grade) following the concert through breakfast on Wednesday morning. Please consider opening your home to host two or more singers overnight on Tuesday, June 13.

All MYC families are invited to host!

Questions? Please contact Lisa at lkjentvet@madisonyouthchoirs.org. Thanks!

Special Invitation to Capriccio, Cantilena, Cantabile, Britten and Holst Trebles
We are looking for treble singers from these ensembles to participate in a great project with our good friends at Opera for the Young. This amazing organization presents shortened versions of classic operas (sung in English with the stories given a modern "twist").

Opera for the Young sends teaching materials and a tutorial CD to schools prior to their performances each year. We have been asked to record the choruses for the tutorial CD for next season's tour of Rusalka. We are looking for a group of singers who can commit to two rehearsals and the recording day. Here are the details:

Rehearsals at Westgate Studios (Studio 4)
Tuesday, April 25, 6:15-7:30pm
Tuesday, May 2, 6:15-7:30pm

Recording Date (Location TBD)
Saturday, May 6, 1:00PM - 2:30PM

Please RSVP to Lisa Kjentvet with your singer's name and choir if you are interested and available for both rehearsals and the recording date. We may not have room for every singer that volunteers and will build the roster based on the needs of Opera for the Young. Once you volunteer we assume you have checked the dates and can commit to 100% participation. Lisa will confirm each participant once the list is final--thank you for your patience!

A Concert You Won't Want to Miss
See the incredible Niadros Cathedral Girl's Choir from Trondheim, Norway on Tuesday, April 4 at 7:30pm at Luther Memorial Church (1609 University Ave). Admission is free (donations will be accepted) and doors open at 6:30pm.

Spring Break
As a reminder, we will NOT be rehearsing Sunday, April 9th and 16th and Monday, April 10th. The boychoir WILL BE rehearsing on Monday, April 17. We recognize that our singers represent nearly every school district in Dane County (and beyond) and therefore understand that your spring break may not coincide with these dates. If you are traveling and will be absent during a regularly scheduled rehearsal in the coming weeks, thank you for letting us know in advance using the online absence form.
