Cantabile and Ragazzi:
Our Incredible 2nd Semester Project!
Hello Cantabile and Ragazzi Singers and Families!

I know 2nd semester seems months away (and it is!), but I wanted to write and give you a little preview of our incredible project.

We've commissioned our good friend Scott Gendel (ask your singer about his work!) to write a choral and instrumental score to accompany a live reading of the 1940 Paul Gallico novella "The Snow Goose".

We'll be premiering this work at the Monroe Arts Center in March, presenting a few excerpts at our May MYC concert, and potentially presenting an encore performance of the entire work at our June Cantabile/Ragazzi concert.

The performance features a small instrumental ensemble (piano, oboe, cello, percussion), our MYC singers as a quasi Greek-chorus, and Wisconsin actor Richard Hilger reading the story.

You'll be hearing more about this project in the coming months (and I'm working a present for you to check out over winter break), but in the meantime, taking on a project like this necessitates a few tweaks in our 2nd semester schedule. Most of the work involves Cantabile and Ragazzi singing together. All changes will be reflected on our website and via Google calendars, but just wanted to give you a heads-up.

Our general rehearsal schedule starting January 8-February 12 will be:
5-7:30 RAGAZZI
6-8:45 CANTABILE (note earlier starting time)

On February 12, 19, 26, and March 5, our schedule will be:
5:30-8 RAGAZZI (note altered times)
6-9 CANTABILE (note earlier starting time)

On March 12 we'll drive to Monroe (this has already been on the calendar all season) for a 2-5pm dress rehearsal. On March 19 we'll drive to Monroe for a 2pm performance (also has been on the calendar all season.

Thanks for your wonderful work already this semester. I'm looking forward to our MSO performances, our own MYC concerts, and starting this work with you in January!
