A Letter from Bishop Michael Burk
Bishop Burk writes a letter urging us to advocate for those who need us to speak on their behalf. He also challenges us to proclaim a clear telling of the Jesus story.

Bishop Burk says, "we are called to proclaim a good news that is for everyone in an era of such polarization, never yielding on premise that this inclusive good news is especially for the poor and for those who are themselves most at risk."

Lutheran Day on the Hill
Mark your calendars and plan to join a group of passionate advocates on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, for Lutheran Day on the Hill and make a difference for tens of thousands of Iowans. Your legislators want and need to hear from you about critical human services.

Lutheran Day on the Hill gives you the opportunity to share your voice with your legislators. As in years past, participants will be given information about important issues before the legislature and will be given suggestions about how best to visit with them concerning what is most important to you. The day will begin at 9:30 at Capitol Hill Lutheran Chruch before moving to the Statehouse.

Chartered buses offered at no cost to attendees will be stopping in Iowa City and Newton. Online registrations is available by clicking the link below. With additional information provided on that site.

This event has been made possible in part through a grant from ELCA World Hunger. Lutheran Services in Iowa is proud to be a partner in Lutheran Day on the Hill with the three Iowa Synods of the ELCA.

Reformation 500
The ELCA is one church body organized in three expressions - congregations, synods and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions, but all three share a common mission of doing God's work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Congregations, members, synods and other institutions of the ELCA will be observing the 500th anniversary of the reformation by a variety of events and activities in the coming years. Many of the local activities will reflect the magnitude of work being done on a national and international scale.

ConFEST 2017: Act2Day 4 Tomorrow
A synod-wide event to enhance and support congregation confirmation ministries by exploring churchwide connections, engaging servant learning and creating community.

Act2Day 4 Tomorrow is ELCA World Hunger's event for youth in middle school and high school. Youth will build community with each other, learn more about hunger and ELCA World Hunger, and take time to reflect on how God is calling them to respond to need in their world. Based on Acts 2:42, Act2Day 4 Tomorrow draws on the seven faith practices of the ELCA (pray, study, serve, give, invite, encourage and worship).

We ask God to remove any hesitations, stubbornness or pride we may have that prevent us from approaching people with whom we have conflict, differences or grudges, or who have wounded us and that we will take initiative to seek reconciliation, forgiveness and healing.
