A Word to Hold On To
"And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them."
                                                                        - 1 John 4:16

A new year brings new classes, new challenges, and new dreams.  God's dream for you doesn't change, though.  It is always for you to know, live, and grow in the love God holds for you.

Beignets and Bible Study

Join us at 5:00 on Thursday, January 25 for Beignets and Bible Study.  In case you don't know what a beignet is, think of a square doughnut.  It is pillowy deliciousness, and we'll make them ourselves.

Bread and Belonging

Every Wednesday, 5:30
We begin by sharing a loaf of fresh-baked bread, then gather for a time of song, reflection, and prayer.  Our program is different each week. Here is our schedule for the next few....

January 24: Contemplative Prayer
January 31: Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer
February 7: "What Does it Mean to Love" video
February 14: Ash Wednesday Joint Service with UCM

And Happening Soon

God Goes to the Movies: Feb 1, 7:00 p.m.
We'll watch a movie together and talk about what it says about God, the human condition, or both. Popcorn provided. February's movie: The Big Friendly Giant.  IMDB says it's about "an orphan little girl befriends a benevolent giant who takes her to Giant Country, where they attempt to stop the man-eating giants that are invading the human world."

Feeding the homeless at Southside Community Center, February 5, 4:30-6:00.
Meet at Christ Chapel to carpool or simply go to 518 S. Guadalupe and go the building furthest to the back.  We do some pre-meal prep, serve the guests, and wash dishes.

Retreat at University Camp, February 9-11
Relax, help make Valentine's Day cards (more on that below), and just enjoy the company of friends. Space is very limited.  Cost: $20, though scholarships are always available. Register through ucmtxstate.org.  Look under the "Ministries" tab and click on "Retreats."

Valentine's Day Card Sales
We work with our friends at the UCM to make Valentine's Day cards for sale on the Quad.  Last year we raised over $1500 for the Hays County Food Bank.  We'll make them on the retreat, but look for a crafts box to be set up in the Coffee House extension with all the necessary materials and directions.

Ash Wednesday
Pr. Jaime will be on the Quad on Ash Wednesday from 9:00 to 2:00 dispensing ashes and providing service times for both Christ Chapel and other ministries on or near campus.

Servants of the Cross Starts February 16th, 1:00 p.m.
Christ Chapel's ministry is open to all students, staff, and faculty of Texas State, and to other adults who are interested in supporting the ministry's goals. Participants are not required to attend a certain number of times in order to be considered part of the ministry; the welcome we extend is unconditional.
However, some students may choose to explore their faith lives more intentionally through the ministry of Christ Chapel.  Toward that end, students are invited to enroll in Servants of the Cross, and order of students in ministry.  This semester's course of study will be the foundations of faith, using "Windows of Faith," a small-group resource developed for college students.
There is no charge to take part in Servants of the Cross, but you must register and converse with Pastor Jaime in advance.  Those completing the three semesters of Servants of the Cross will be those from whom Peer Ministers will be drawn each year.
