Remember in Prayer
Monday of Holy Week Mary of Bethany was extravagant in her love for Jesus and her anointing of him before his death. We pray that we too may not be shy or embarrassed in our witness and worship, especially in telling others of Jesus’ life, suffering, death and resurrection for our sake. More prayers...

Synod Blog: Love Like Jesus
By Ellen Rothweiler, Event Director
This is the third year of the Southeastern Iowa Synod Service Learning event for high school youth. We will continue our partnership with Grand View University Campus Ministries for this long weekend of fun. The theme for 2016 is a quote from the Mary Oliver poem The Summer Day; “…what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” We are helping students wrestle with this question by talking about what a call to vocation means and providing opportunities for youth to explore their gifts and interact with their neighbors through a day of learning and a day of service. Peace Not Walls Update
For Christ is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. Eph. 2:14

We can break down the walls of injustice that keep so many Palestinian children without legal counsel or access to family in military prisons. Children, especially boys, are arrested so routinely that Defense of Children International now goes into schools to teach children what their rights are when they are arrested.

As of November 2015, 412 Palestinian children were in Israeli prisons. We can build hope through educating ourselves about child arrest and detention, pray for children in conflict areas and for them to be treated humanely by soldiers and the justice system, and call on our elected representatives to ask them to bring an end to arbitrary arrests and detention without representation in Israeli military prisons.

For more information go to Defense of Children International and check out this UNICEF report. For more on Peace Not Walls visit our website.
