Message from our President

Friends of CARA,

Thank you once again for being there for us on our Facebook campaigns. We have had several special surgeries and needs this past month and your assistant worked miracles!

Just a quick update on the Go Fund Me for our industrial wash and dryer. The Go Fund Me is still active and between it, direct donations made to CARA for them and money from a yard sale we had about $5,000 has been raised! Almost half way there!!! Thank you!

I, myself, had the wonderful experience of updating my Will. The attorney was delighted to hear all the wonderful things going on at CARA. I explained how we had to cancel all our big events this year and were trying to come up with new fundraising ideas. She had a few suggestions about estate planning she wanted me to share that is good for any charity you would like to support. Times like these your smaller local charities are struggling. If anyone had the ability to think of CARA or any other charity when planning their estate, she suggested the following.
Retirement assets, old stocks, bonds or other investment investments you may have may be good candidates for charity bequest because they can be among the highest taxed assets in any estate. Leaving a portion of your retirement assets to a charity has two distinct advantages:

* Increasing the impact of your bequest. The charity would not have to pay income taxes on your donation when it receives the assets from your retirement account.

* Decreases the estate tax burden for your family. Your assets would be past directly to the charitable organization, so your estate would be eligible for a federal estate tax charitable deduction on the account’s value.

Any charity will appreciate your thoughtfulness. Whether it is through estate planning, support as you can or even volunteering!

Thank you for your support!

Wilbur
"Happy to finally meet all of our supporters again even if it's virtually and through a picture." Wilbur is CARA's resident meatball for a second time this year. He just started his second stint as a homeless CARA dog and looking for a permanent home he can call his own. He would like to find a family where he can plop his meatball self beside a favorite human or two. He does advise to be the only lovable meatball pooch in the house even though he does get along with select dog friends. This handsome canine has an endless amount of love, protection, and fun to offer to a couple who are empty nesters or cannot have kids. Wilbur identifies with the awesome staffy breed and says he is not a day over 4! The resident meatball comes fully vetted, micro-chipped, AND neutered. Wilbur says the life of being a dad was not in the cards as he rather be the center of attention in his new home filled with toys, beds, food, water, and love!

Fill out an application today for our meatball, who is patiently awaiting for is his forever family. If you want to know more information about Wilbur and his doggy cohorts, call 919-774-9433 or email cara@cara-nc.org.

Obi Wan's Update

We thought we would give our adopters an update on Obi Wan. We've had a tremendous amount of support and love for this big lug. Obi came to us as an owner surrender and was in poor health. When we took him to the vet, we found out he had cancer, skin tags, and hematomas in ears. Last week, our Obi had his big surgery. In the surgery, he had cancerous tumors removed, skin tags removed, the hematomas removed, and was neutered. The neuter was added due to Obi Wan already being under anesthesia. The surgery went very well and he is recovering nicely. He's not keen on having his ears wrapped to his head but his foster family is making sure he is spoiled and getting the rest he needs to recover. Everyone at CARA appreciates all the donations made to Obi's surgery. We definitely couldn't help this big love bug out without all of our supporters! Go to Obi Wan's Facebook for continuous updates on his recovery!

Sponsorship Opportunities

We have started a new way to bring in funds to the shelter since our fundraisers have either been canceled or moved to be virtual. We are featuring certain CARA animals that need sponsors to help cover their care while they are with us. We are asking for $100 total per animal. This covers the animal's spay/neuter and feeding them.

Anastasia, pictured left, needs a sponsor. She needs to get spayed once she gains some weight. You can donate through our Facebook page or through our website at www.cara-nc.org/donate. If possible, put a comment on the box provided letting us know you want to help sponsor Anastasia.
