Fair Auction Item Admission: Please bring an auction item as you register for the event, as well as your wallet to join the spirit of bidding!
In Tanzania, church members often do not have monetary means to share an offering. Instead of money, an offering may be whatever tangible items they have--whether it be a woven basket, wood carving or utensil, agricultural produce, even livestock—as a sign of their thanksgiving and service to God. Some, having neither money nor tangible items, simply put their hand in the offering basket as an offering of themselves to God. After the worship service, outside the church, the tangible items are converted to cash by way of an auction performed by the area pastor. It is a lively, joyful time of oneness and coming together for the common good of God’s church.
As a unique and refreshing way to engage in fun and fellowship, to walk in financial support and in cultural accompaniment with our Tanzanian and Chilean companion synods, and to cover our event costs, you are asked to please supply an auction item as you register for the event. An individual contribution or a more significant congregational item/package may be offered. Let the Spirit lead!
Ideas for consideration include Tanzanian or Chilean crafts, spiritual books/music, fair trade items, baked goods, health and wellness items, Luther paraphernalia, stationery and craft materials, sporting equipment, etc. Many of the items will be arranged for a silent auction throughout the day, with a handful being reserved for a lively Tanzanian-style auction at the end of the day as we enjoy Chilean snacks and wine! Auctioneer will be our own beloved Bishop Rodger Prois!
So, be creative and generous as you prepare to offer an item for any/all to bid on and ultimately enjoy!
Please register by September 9th
