ACF Wants You! ACF is recruiting new board members before the beginning of our next fiscal year in July 2014. We are looking for people who are committed to social justice in the region and who would be willing and able to make at least a two-year commitment and ideally a three-year commitment.
Our board of directors is made up of community leaders and residents of the four-state area where we fund. Grantees, donors, allies, and board members make up the ACF network and community, which helps guide our work and our community-controlled grantmaking.
ACF seeks to represent the Central Appalachian region and its people in our board makeup. We seek to be inclusive of race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, and economic status. In addition, we seek persons who understand and have a commitment to the movement for social change, as well as specific skills and experience that would add to ACF's organizational skills (program development, nonprofit administration, how to use social media for social justice, fundraising, board development, etc.)
We meet four times a year, rotating our meetings throughout our four-state region as well as via conference calls. Late winter is our big meeting where the board decides which grants will be awarded from the General Fund.
We have a special need for folks in Southwest Virginia and West Virginia given our current term rotation cycle. We are also interested in actively seeking people of color, young adults, women, folks with fundraising skills and people who have sat on a board of directors before. The above are not mandatory, just a current need.
If you or someone you know would be interested in serving on ACF's Board of Directors, please download a nomination form here in PDF or word document. Instructions regarding how to submit your form can be found in the form. If you have questions about serving on the board, please feel free to contact Margo Miller at 865-523-5783 or email her at email@example.com.
The board will review and vote on submitted nominations in our early summer board meeting, so please submit your completed nominations forms by May 31, 2014.
