Reserving Your Seat for Next Season:
Intention Forms Due May 1
Conductors will be spending a few minutes in rehearsals this weekend talking about our audition and placement process for next season as well as giving each singer their individualized intention/reservation form to be returned to MYC by May 1. The intention form and accompanying information sheet will also be delivered to parents via email early next week with reminders about spring audition dates and how to sign up. With many of our ensembles nearing their capacity, we want to make sure every current singer who wishes to continue with MYC has their seat reserved for next season BEFORE we hear any NEW singers audition. Seat reservations are made by returning the intention form along with a $50 tuition deposit to MYC by May 1. (Deposits are fully refundable through July 13.) Audition reservations are handled separately via our website links and should be made only after the intention form has been submitted. Thank you for carefully reading through this information with your singer when it comes home this weekend and contacting us with any questions or concerns.

We're looking forward to a fabulous 2018-19 season and hope you will be a part of it!

Hosting Opportunity: April 27/28
Con Gioia is sharing time with a visiting choir from Minnesota (CoMUSICation) as well Madison's Mt. Zion Baptist Church's youth choir the last weekend of April. MYC is providing host families for CoMUSICation singers on Friday, April 27, and we hope you will consider hosting! (Any MYC family may host--not just Con Gioia families). You can view the details and sign up using the link below. This is a great opportunity to show hospitality and make new (singing) friends from Minnesota!

Con Gioia: More details about the Saturday, April 28, afternoon/evening event will be shared next week.

Capriccio Sister Cities Event
As a reminder, Capriccio sings at the Sister Cities Collaboration Committee (SCCC) event on Saturday, April 14, at the MATC-Truax Campus.

Call time is 5:45pm; pick up time is 7:00pm. Singers should be dropped off and picked up at the Gateway Welcome Center.

This is a full concert wardrobe event--please make sure your singer arrives already dressed in their concert wardrobe. If you have an unavoidable conflict, thank you for letting us know via the online absence form.

We are looking forward to Capriccio representing Madison Youth Choirs at this significant shindig next week!

Spring Outreach Tours
It's time to get on the bus! Our spring outreach tour days are fast approaching (see calendar reminders below) and we are looking forward to performing for thousands of Dane County residents who have invited us to their school or retirement home.

What Happens on Tour Day?
Singers meet at and depart from Westgate Mall around 8am and return around 3pm. Specific itinerary details are still being finalized and will be shared next week.  Each ensemble travels by bus to four different venues throughout the day performing selections from their season repertoire for audience members who might not ever have the opportunity to attend one of our concerts. It's a tremendous day of making music, forging friendships, and building lasting memories together--this day is always remembered as a highlight of the MYC experience for our singers.

Each tour is a full day and we ask that you excuse your singer from school to participate in this important community outreach event. The dates have been published on your calendar since the beginning of the season and we assume each singer is participating as everyone is important to the ensemble: please make sure you have taken note of your singer's tour day and have communicated the absence to your school. If you need a written explanation for the absence, we have provided a brief description linked below.

Spring 2018 Tour Dates
Wednesday, April 25: Cantabile and Ragazzi
Thursday, April 26: Cantilena
Monday, April 30: Choraliers
Tuesday, May 1: Purcell and Holst | Con Gioia
Thursday, May 3: Britten
Friday, May 4: Capriccio

Want to ride along and lend a hand? Parent chaperones are needed for each tour. Please email Lisa Kjentvet with your interest.

Special Opportunity: Opera for the Young
We are looking for treble singers in 2nd-5th grade from Choraliers, Con Gioia, Purcell, and Britten to participate in a great project with our good friends at Opera for the Young. This amazing organization presents shortened versions of classic operas (sung in English with the stories given a modern "twist").

Participants will be performing in Opera for the Young's current tour of "Rusalka" at Family Opera Day on June 2. Margaret Jenks will direct a maximum of 16 singers who can commit to two rehearsals and the performance day at Overture Center for the Arts.

Rehearsals at Westgate, Studio 4
Tuesday, May 29, 4:30-6:00pm
Thursday, May 31, 4:30-6:00pm

Performance at Overture Center for the Arts
Saturday, June 2, likely 11:00am - 2:45pm (11:00 rehearsal, 12:45 audience workshop, 1:30 performance)

Please check your calendars and let us know if you are interested and available by replying to Lisa Kjentvet with your singer's name and choir. Once you volunteer we assume you have checked the dates and can commit to 100% participation. We will confirm each participant once the list is final--thank you!

Run MadTown and Brat Fest Fundraising Opportunities
Both of these events take place Memorial Day Weekend and provide wonderful opportunities to raise money for Madison Youth Choirs (and make advanced progress toward your 2018-19 family fundraising contribution, i.e., NEXT season's goal for singers planning to return.)

Thank you to everyone who has participated!

Reminder:  Donations collected through April 9 will count toward ensemble and individual rewards. Donations submitted after April 9 will be gratefully accepted but will not count toward IMC rewards.

Don't forget to say thank you! to your donors. This is so important! MYC is also providing a thank you along with a receipt but a note from you is the most meaningful.

Thank you parents and singers for your work on this campaign--we plan to announce your amazing results after April 9! Families can expect to receive updated tuition and fundraising statements next week.  As a reminder, donations made to MYC, including those made toward meeting your family fundraising contribution goal, are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
_________________________________________________________________
It's MYChoir (IMC) is both a fundraising campaign and an opportunity for members and staff to share with the wider community the importance of music education and the benefits it provides. Because tuition alone covers less than 50% of the total cost of each singer's enrollment, fundraising is a necessary part of MYC membership. We count on families to fully participate and meet their $200 family fundraising goal each year to help cover the tuition gap.
