Chrism Mass for Rostered Leaders
What is a Chrism Mass?
A Chrism Mass is a service held during Holy Week and presided over by a synodical bishop. At this unique liturgy, the blessing of oil is coupled with a renewal of vows for rostered leaders. The traditional day for this service is Maundy Thursday (when some traditions believe the first ordinations took place). In some places (especially in geographically large synods), bishops make provision for several chrism masses throughout the synod to enable all rostered leaders to participate. Here are the scheduled Chrism Masses for the Western Iowa Synod, all will begin at 10 am:
April 7      St. Paul, Treynor
April 10    Immanuel, Akron
April 11    Grace, Ft. Dodge
Assembly - June 9-11, 2017
Theme: We Are Lutheran: Opening Doors
The Western Iowa Synod's Annual Assembly will be here in just a little over three months. Please watch this area of the eSpirit for Assembly News and updates. You can also find many resources and information on our website!

Please remember: Youth & Young Adults
*It is the goal of this synod that at least 10 percent of the voting members of the Synod Assembly be youth and young adults. Each congregation is allowed one youth and one young adult besides their voting members. The term "youth" means a voting member of a congregation who has not reached the age of 18 at the time of election or appointment for service. The term "young adult" means a voting member of a congregation between the ages of 18 and 30 at the time of election or appointment for service.
