Dr. Matossian Teaches Surgical Residents and Their Attendings

Twice a year, Cynthia Matossian, MD, FACS participates as a featured faculty member at the weekend-long surgical mentor resident program sponsored by Bausch + Lomb for surgical residents and their attendings from academic programs all over the U.S. This event is designed to teach cataract surgery techniques through hands-on experience in a wet lab setting.

Drs. Rozenbaum and Matossian Presented at AAO

While at the American Academy of Ophthalmology's annual meeting, held in Chicago this past October, Cynthia Matossian, MD and Ilya Rozenbaum, MD participated in a variety of programs. Dr. Rozenbaum assisted in a lab course on the latest surgical techniques for glaucoma, using iStent implants. Dr. Matossian presented to several groups regarding the latest in cataract surgery. She also spoke at the ALPHAEON booth on the benefits of Omega-3 for Dry Eye Disease.

While at AAO, Cynthia Matossian, MD spoke about a clinical study recently conducted at Matossian Eye Associates wherein the impact of tear osmolarity measurements on pre-surgical calculations for cataract surgery patients was examined.

MEA Presents Continuing Education Event for Local Optometrists

In November, Matossian Eye Associates held a dinner function which included two COPE-Approved lectures for continuing education credits, attended by over 30 local optometrists.

Henry Lee, MD spoke on "The Surgical Management of the Tearing Patient," presenting several case study videos.

Cynthia Matossian, MD, FACS spoke on "Bridging the Reimbursement Gap," discussing many of the tools she employs to diversify revenue streams while continuing to focus on patient care and optimal outcomes.

MEA is Active in a Variety of Clinical Studies
  • Tri-Moxi-Vanc (Imprimis Pharmaceuticals) Injection Post-Cataract Surgery and its Effect on Corneal Endothelial Cells. We have submitted an IND to the FDA.
  • WHITESTAR Signature® (Abbott Medical Optics) with Two Different Tips in Cataract Surgery. We have completed this study.
  • Tecnis Toric (Abbott Medical Optics) 1-Piece IOL Registry. We are actively enrolling patients into this study.
  • Lotemax (Bausch + Lomb) vs. Vehicle Gel for Inflammation/Pain Post-Cataract Surgery. We have begun this study.
  • Hoffer H5 IOL Formula. This study is in the data collection phase where gender and race are factored in IOL power calculation formulas.
  • The Influence of the PRN Dry Eye Omega-3 Nutritional Regimen in Tear Osmolarity. We have completed this study.
  • Evaluation of ReSure® Sealant (Ocular Therapeutix) in High Risk Patients. We have completed this study. We will be presenting the outcomes at ASCRS.
  • Investigation of trabecular micro-bypass stent system in conjunction with Cataract Surgery (Glaukos). We are about to begin this study.
  • Lenstec HD and HDO IOLs: Comparison of Yag laser capsulotomy rates with HD and the HDO IOLs. We are about to begin a retrospective analysis of our data.
  • IPL Study (collaboration with Duke Eye Center). We have completed the study and are awaiting the analysis of our data by the Duke University biostatisticians.
  • The Influence of PRN Omega-3 Nutritional Supplement on Visual Accuity Outcomes in Cases Undergoing Cataract Surgery.
    We are about to begin this study.
  • Study Evaluating the Efficacy and Safety of a 5.0% Concentration of Lifitegrast Oph. Sol. vs. Placibo in Subjects with DED and History or Recent Artificial Tear Use (Shire). We are about to begin this Study.

MEA and Duke University Collaborating on IPL Study

Matossian Eye Associates and the Eye Center at Duke University are collaborating to compile data on the long-term effectiveness of Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) on the symptoms of meibomian gland dysfunction. The data has been collected and is being analyzed by a group of biostatisticians at Duke University.

Dr. Matossian Receives Honors

Cynthia Matossian, MD, FACS was recently honored by several groups for her continuing contributions to the field of ophthalmology and her unyielding dedication to her patients and practice.
  • Dr. Matossian was selected to be featured on Philly's Top Docs, a segment which airs during the popular "Dr. Oz Show," to be filmed in 2015.
  • While at the American Academy of Ophthalmology's annual meeting in Chicago, Dr. Matossian was named an Outstanding Female Visionary by MillenialEye.
  • In the October 2014 issue of Inside New Jersey, Dr. Matossian was named a Top Doctor in New Jersey. The doctors included in Castle Connolly's Top Doctor listings were selected after peer nomination, extensive research and careful review and screening by their doctor-directed research team. Doctors do not and cannot pay to be listed as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor.

Dr. Matossian Speaks to NJSOP

Cynthia Matossian, MD, FACS was invited to speak to over one hundred attendees of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians (NJSOP) at their Fall Continuing Education Seminar. Dr. Matossian shared her insights on "Creating a Dry Eye Center of Excellence," including many of the pearls she has found to be successful and effective in her own practice.
