Edgewater Event | Saturday, November 10
All of our ensembles will be participating in the inaugural Fall for Music at the Edgewater, a free, festive public event showcasing MYC's performing ensembles and offering a variety of fall activities and food to enjoy on Edgewater's Grand Plaza between 1 and 4pm. Because this is a performing event, everyone's voice is important. We expect you will be attending unless you have an immovable, unavoidable conflict. (Please let us know via the online absence form). Call times and performances for each ensemble are listed below. We will provide more detailed parking and arrival directions closer to the event.

Saturday, November 10 | Edgewater Hotel, Madison
Ragazzi, Cantabile, Cantilena | 1:00PM Call; 1:30PM Perform
Con Gioia | 1:45PM Call; 2:15PM Perform
Choraliers, Capriccio | 2:15PM Call; 2:45PM Perform
Purcell, Britten, Holst | 2:45PM Call; 3:15PM Perform

* For everyone who is able to stay until 4PM, we are planning a finale that we rarely have an opportunity to do: sing as one choir with every ensemble represented. This will be an amazing end to what promises to be a very festive day! Thank you for planning ahead so your singer can participate at 3:45PM.
Mahler 8 with the Madison Symphony Orchestra
Con Gioia | Britten | Capriccio | Holst | Cantilena | Cantabile

Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience!
John DeMain's celebratory 25th season with the Madison Symphony Orchestra will be capped off in May with Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8. Often referred to as the "Symphony of a Thousand," this monumental choral/orchestral work will include a massive orchestra and hundreds of voices--soloists; adult chorus; and a youth chorus made up entirely of MYC singers. For all who participate, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience: you will never forget the year you learned and performed Mahler 8 with the Madison Symphony Orchestra at Overture Hall!

Because the youth chorus has a significant amount of music to master and rich textual ideas to discuss and ponder, we are creating a special, multi-age Mahler 8 ensemble with its own weekly rehearsal schedule during the spring semester. Interested singers will commit to attending their regular MYC ensemble rehearsals in addition to their weekly Mahler rehearsals. No additional tuition will be charged for this opportunity.

Who is this for?
All treble singers in Con Gioia, Britten, Holst, Capriccio, Cantilena, and Cantabile are invited to indicate their interest. Special thought should be given when considering this commitment as it will require considerable focus in rehearsals and on stage--this piece is 90 minutes in length and we are on stage the entire (glorious) time.

The proposed schedule:
KICK-OFF REHEARSAL: Saturday, Dec. 15 OR Sunday, Dec. 16 from 1-4pm
WEEKLY REHEARSALS: Tuesday OR Wednesday evenings, 6:30-7:30pm beginning January 15/16 through April 23/24.
REQUIRED MSO REHEARSALS: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, April 30 - May 2 at Overture Hall
REQUIRED MSO PERFORMANCES: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 3-5

Next step:
Treble singers in Con Gioia, Britten, Holst, Capriccio, Cantilena, and Cantabile who are interested in this project are invited to complete the Google form linked below by November 1. Once we know who is interested and able to commit, we will determine the final Mahler 8 roster based on the needs of the MSO and communicate to you by December 1.

We hope many of you will consider this incredible opportunity to be part of the "Symphony of a Thousand"--you will never forget it!

Poinsettia Sale
We have many businesses hoping to be contacted by MYC so they can place their annual poinsettia order. MYC retains sales information from past years and will gladly pass along former singer business leads to interested families. If you sold to businesses last year and need your contact information, please let us know--we can easily provide past order information to make your pitch as simple as possible. This is the week to contact businesses! Please email Ian to get started.

A few details to get you started:
Our poinsettias are supplied by Felly's Greenhouse and are guaranteed. They are beautiful plants that last well beyond the holidays. We sell three colors--pink, white, and red in four sizes ranging in price from $12-$37. Families earn $5 per plant sold, regardless of size, toward their fundraising goal. Plants are available until our stock is sold out but our initial deadline for submitting orders initial orders is November 13 so Felly's has time to prepare the orders for our first set of delivery/pick up dates the week before and after Thanksgiving.

There are two ways to sell: gather individual orders from family, neighbors, coworkers, etc., and/or approach businesses interested in decorating for the holidays or providing gifts to their clients. Restaurants, coffee shops, churches, real estate offices, hair salons, hotels, car dealerships, banks, etc. are all good places to start. Please read through the information sheet before you begin selling and please contact the MYC office with any questions you may have.
