Here to Serve: Being Church in the Time of COVID-19
Weekly Online Gathering for ELCA Leaders

Wednesdays, 1PM Central

You are invited to join this weekly gathering designed to provide encouragement and support for ELCA leaders across the church and throughout society. Participants will hear topical presentations related to how we are called to be Church in the time of COVID-19, as well as an opportunity to be in small group discussions with an ELCA group coach facilitating the conversation.

On July 15, we are honored to have Rev. Dr. Lawrence J. Clark, II and Rev. Dr. Richard N. Stewartpresent with us to share The Untold Story of Black Lutheran History. Rev. Lawrence (Larry) Clark is unashamedly African American and unapologetically Lutheran. He earned a BA in United States History from San Francisco State University, an MDiv with an emphasis in Urban & Youth Ministry from Trinity Lutheran Seminary (Columbus, OH), and a DMin with honors from the historic Interdenominational Theological Center (Atlanta, GA).

Rev. Stewart is Adjunct Professor and Graduate Advisor in Administration, Evangelism, Stewardship, and Communications at United Lutheran Seminary (Philadelphia, PA). He earned a BA from Wittenberg University and an MDiv from Hamma School of Theology (both in Springfield, OH). Rev. Stewart also earned a DMin from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, where he was an Associate Professor for 33 years. He has also been researching African American Lutheran History for nearly 35 years!

Paycheck Protection Program Renewed

The Paycheck Protection Program resumed accepting applications July 6, 2020, at 9:00 AM EDT in response to President signing the program's extension legislation. The new deadline to apply for a Paycheck Protection Program loan is August 8, 2020.

Zoom Meeting with Bishop Zeiser

Thursday, July 16 at 10:00 am.

Bishop Zeiser invites you to join him for a 90-minute conversation on Thursday, July 16, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The bishop will announce the Synod Council’s decision regarding Assembly 2020. Pertinent information about the election of the next synod bishop will also be provided. Instructions for joining the meeting are provided below. Meeting capacity is 500 participants. The conversation will be recorded for later listening/viewing.

Growing Young in a Changing World Virtual Summit

The Bishop's conference for this year has been cancelled, but keep the dates clear for NEPA Growing Young in a Changing World Virtual Summit! We will be walking through the 6 Core Commitments with Jake Mulder from the Fuller Youth Institute and make plans for how to help your congregation Grow Young in the midst of our quickly changing society. $40 per person, open to all NEPA Synod Rostered Ministers and lay leaders. Registration information to come.

Parish Secretaries’ Seminar Cancelled

It is after careful thought and discussion that the planning committee for the Parish Secretaries’ Seminar has decided to cancel the upcoming 2020 conference. We held off as long as we felt possible to make this difficult decision. We had spent the early part of the spring planning what we felt would be a meaningful and positive program for our attendees. We were excited by the speakers we chose to address the topics which we had planned using survey input from the past 2 years. Making this decision was tough as we know how much our attendees look forward to this event – as do we!

Every month, Pastor Rob Blezzard offers a monthly Stewardship Resource Kit that has brief RCL-based bulletin inserts relating to stewardship for every Sunday, plus a newsletter article folks can cut-and-paste into their congregational publications. There are also links to online resources to teach, do, lead, preach about and think about stewardship.

Holy Spirit Christian Nursery School (at The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in Emmaus, PA) is seeking two preschool teachers and one teacher’s aide for the 2020-2021 school year. The positions are part-time. Teacher candidates need a degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education and must be someone who loves working with young children along with strong collaboration skills. Requirements for the teacher aide are a love of young children and their learning, experience volunteering and/or working with your children, and strong collaboration skills. Redeemer, Allentown, seeks an Organist and Choir Director (approximately 15 hours per week) to oversee the traditional music ministries of the church. The music leader will play hymns, liturgy, rehearse and accompany the choir for weekly Sunday services and other seasonal services. The Organist and Choir Director will also work with the pastor and Sunday School leaders. Salary is commensurate with experience. Allegheny, Mohnton seeks a Director of Christian Education whose primary role is to oversee and organize Faith Formation activities for all ages.
