Portico Health Assessment - Off to a great start!
As of January 31 19 percent of our eligible members have taken the assessment, giving us a great start! Help us reach our goal of having 65% of the eligible ELCA-Primary health plan members and spouses in our synod complete the online Mayo Clinic health assessment by April 30. Completing the health assessment earns you $150 in wellness dollars you can use to offset out-of-pocket medical expenses. Take your health assessment today! -

Like a Good Neighbor Trinity is There
Many of us have seen State Farm Insurance commercials with the line, “Like a good neighbor State Farm is there.” Like a good neighbor, Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown seeks to be a hospitable and gracious presence in our community.

On the first Sunday after school starts Trinity organizes a neighborhood party in the church-yard with games for all ages, live music, and free food. The neighborhood party is an opportunity for our neighbors, many of which are not a part of a community of faith, to experience the welcome of Christ that seeks to connect people. Read the rest...

Gathered, Claimed, Sent: A Guide for Conversation
Does being the church matter? If it does, why and how do we as members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) make a difference in the world? Presiding bishop, Elizabeth Eaton, is working with a task force to reflect on the nature and purpose of the church, especially in relation to our global and ecumenical commitments to other church bodies. The review has prompted this group to ask you — leaders, members and friends of ELCA congregations — what
you think about this question: By being church together, what can the ELCA uniquely offer to the world?

Download a copy of the guide here, and watch Bishop Eaton's invitation to enter into this conversation.

A Framework for Understanding Poverty
Is poverty a problem in your community? Interested in helping but you don't know where to start?

The first step to helping make a difference in the lives of people living in poverty is to understand the obstacles they encounter everyday. This insight can help provide the support others need to break the cycle of generational poverty.

To learn more about the effects of living in poverty and what you can do to help, attend A Framework for Understanding Poverty on Saturday, April 18 in Marshalltown, IA. Using Ruby Payne’s  book, Bridges out of Poverty, as a reference this 7-hour course is designed to give participants insight into the challenges that people face to improve their lives.

This event is sponsored by the Southeastern Iowa Synod and the Marshall County ELCA Hunger Ministries Team. Click here for more information and to register.
