Just One Week
Invite your entire faith community to take a small health and wellness step together. Add three healthy practices into the life of your church — for just one week.
Just One Week is like a taste test. For seven days, invite your congregation to add a little movement, try a few centering opportunities, and gather to eat only healthy foods. One week isn't enough time to become healthier. But it is enough time to start meaningful health and wellness conversations. Begin on a Sunday with all the Sunday-related activities. Finish the following Sunday. More info here!

Collecting Medical Supplies in Memory of Dr. Jason
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ:  We write to officially inform you with sad and heavy hearts on the sudden passing of Dr. Jason Mtokoma of a lung ailment at the young age of 42.  As you may be aware, the Western Iowa Synod worked diligently over a number of years to support Jason through medical school with the understanding of his return service to the Southern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania, at its Ilembula Lutheran Hospital, where a most dire need for medical professionals exists.  Decades of hoped for medical service are dashed in the place where life in general can be very fragile.  He leaves behind a wife and two young children.  His patients are grieving as well.  Let us please hold them all in prayer.

As you may also be aware, the Western Iowa Synod is having a drive for medical equipment and supplies that will be brought to our synod assembly in June and offered to Global Health Ministries in Minnesota.  GHM collects warehouses of such items for redistribution to Lutheran medical facilities in the global south.  It is the intention of the WIS to then collaborate with GHM to add medical supply and equipment to the Ilembula Lutheran Hospital in the year ahead.

Won't you please join us in honoring Dr. Jason Mtokoma by participating fully in this drive! Inform others!  Seek items from area clinics, hospitals, and medical supply outlets!

See assembly webpage for more details and list of desired items and kits.  Medical drive flier here!

Asante Sana (Thank you very much) & Mungu awabariki (God bless you all!)
Cindy Wells, Director for Global Mission

Chrism Mass for Rostered Leaders
What is a Chrism Mass?
A Chrism Mass is a service held during Holy Week and presided over by a synodical bishop. At this unique liturgy, the blessing of oil is coupled with a renewal of vows for rostered leaders. The traditional day for this service is Maundy Thursday (when some traditions believe the first ordinations took place). In some places (especially in geographically large synods), bishops make provision for several chrism masses throughout the synod to enable all rostered leaders to participate. Here are the scheduled Chrism Masses for the Western Iowa Synod, all will begin at 10 am:

April 7      St. Paul, Treynor
April 10    Immanuel, Akron
April 11    Grace, Ft. Dodge

Following the Chrism Mass, we invite those interested, to eat together at a local restaurant!
