Update from the Director

With the holidays behind us, it is now time to focus on the many items that have found their way to my To-Do-List. Much of my time and attention will be on marketing and the update to the organization’s action plan. In the area of marketing, the website will be receiving significant upgrades over the next several weeks, the three promotional videos will be completed in February, a digital marketing campaign is set to begin, and additional print materials will be prepared to complement the existing brochure. I will be attending a real estate conference in Las Vegas at the end of February, and my attendance at several other business trade shows/missions are being discussed for later in the spring and summer.

I will be working with the GPREP board and economic development colleagues to plan a 2-3 day tour that will give site selection consultants the opportunity to see the region and meet with key community, education, and business representatives. If our schedule permits, we may decide to host two tours with one scheduled for late spring and the second held in conjunction with the October 1st APOPA Fly-In.

The original GPREP Action Plan was adopted in July 2009. Many of those original strategies have been accomplished or will be completed by the end of 2016. The board will be seeking input from a wide range of stakeholders to prepare the contents of an updated action plan that is anticipated to be adopted this summer. As a regional public-private partnership, it is important that the action plan is comprehensive, yet specific enough to address each entity’s needs and desired outcomes.

With your continued input and support, 2016 will be an exciting and successful year. I look forward to getting to work and making great things happen.

Mountain Institute JTED

Businesses depend on a strong, comprehensive education system for their workforce. Joint Technical Education District or JTEDs offer another option for employers to find those valuable skilled employees. Currently, there are thirteen JTEDs throughout the state of Arizona. Each JTED functions as an independent school district with its own elected governing board, with the local JTED known as "Mountain Institute." The Mountain Institute provides enhanced Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses for students within seven individual school districts within Western Yavapai County: Ash Fork, Bagdad, Chino Valley, Humboldt, Mayer, Prescott, and Seligman. It offers a variety of Career and Technical Education programs to students who are seeking to develop specific skills toward their future career goals in 14 career areas, including welding, information technology, and pre-engineering. Visit our local JTED on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/MIJTED or website, http://www.mijted.net/pages/Mountain_Institute_JTED

AOPA Fly-In 2016

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) will be holding one if its four Fly-Ins scheduled for 2016 on October 1st at the Earnest A. Love Field in Prescott. AOPA was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to general aviation in 1939. From the start, AOPA has fought to protect the freedom to fly while keeping general aviation safe, fun, and affordable. Growth in the early years was slow, but by 2010 more than 400,000 individuals were AOPA members. Hundreds of pilots and their families, along with dozens of vendors, will be spending the weekend in the area. This is a good opportunity for the Greater Prescott Region to show what it has to offer the rest of the country. GPREP intends to have a booth, as well as inviting some key business development consultants to see the region and to discuss opportunities for their clients to locate a company within the region. More updates will be provided in future E-Newsletters. [website]

BOARD MEMBER PROFILE
Danny Sullivan has spent 32 years in the Escrow and Title Insurance industry working with commercial and residential brokerages and agents in the Phoenix metro area. Much of that time has been in sales and marketing. He has been employed by large national title insurance companies and local privately owned title agencies. Over the years he has held management positions including Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Corporate Vice President, President and Chief Operating Officer. Expansion, recruiting, building and training has been his focus for the past 17 years; growing one company from 3 branches and 25 people to 26 branches and 180 people.

In 2005 / 2006 he served as President of the Land Title Association of Arizona and has stayed involved in the organization. He currently chairs an LTAA committee to address the new CFPB and RESPA regulations issues.

In November of 2014 Danny joined Yavapai Title Agency in Prescott as Vice President. He believes that businesses should give back to the communities where they are located and is very happy with YTA’s 52 year history of strong community involvement.

Danny and his wife have always enjoyed visiting Prescott. They purchased a home in Prescott last year to eventually retire to and then Danny was offered the position at Yavapai Title. New to the Board of Directors, Mr. Sullivan was elected Secretary in July 2015.
