Opening Camp Details
Every new season with Madison Youth Choirs begins with an opening camp day for each ensemble. Music is made, and friendships are sparked! Camp sets the tone for the entire semester and begins the positive momentum toward our rehearsal season.

Attendance at camp is required. Your singer's camp date has been set for months and communicated to you when you received your registration forms. Thank you for making it a priority! If you have an immovable, unavoidable conflict, please let us know via the on-line absence form linked at the top of this email and found on the Members page of our website.

Camp is held on the beautiful campus of Madison Country Day School, 5606 River Road in Waunakee.

Saturday, September 8:
9:30am - Noon Choraliers; Con Gioia
1:00pm - 4:00pm Cantabile; Ragazzi; Capriccio; and Cantilena

Saturday, September 15:
9:30am - 4:00pm Holst (please pack a sack lunch)
1:00pm - 4:00pm Purcell; Britten

What should singers bring to camp?
  • 1" black binder for their music
  • water bottle (please label with singer's name)
  • a full stomach and energy! (small snack will be provided)

Singers in Holst should bring a sack lunch that does not need to be refrigerated.

Everyone should dress comfortably for the day and plan that time will be spent both indoors and outdoors.
Want to Join Us on Camp Day?
We have a variety of volunteer opportunities and encourage parents to consider joining us on camp day! Take a look at the options below then click the button below to volunteer.

Ensemble Chaperone
Depending upon the ensemble this could be a very busy or very low-key day! Chaperones enjoy the sneak peek into our upcoming season and the opportunity to experience how MYC teaches and rehearses. Chaperones arrive a bit early and are prepared to help in any way asked throughout the day. Flexibility, energy, and a smile are all that's needed!

Greeters arrive a bit early, smile, and direct "traffic."

Invitation to New Families on Camp Day
New families are invited to a brief welcome session on camp day designed to provide an introduction to successfully navigating the myriad details of the first-year MYC experience. We want your time with us to be positive and this session will help get you started off on the right foot! Plan to stick around for about 45 minutes after dropping off your singer. We'll meet in the registration area. (Don't worry, it will be obvious where to be!)

If you can't stay for this welcome session, we encourage you to be reading the Weekly Notes thoroughly every Thursday and using our website as your first reference if you have questions.
Are You an MYC Enthusiast?
Be a Resource for New Families!
If you are a returning MYC family who has successfully navigated a season with us and you have enthusiasm to spare, you're invited to attend our welcome session for new MYC families on camp day to extend hospitality and provide your perspective on being part of the MYC community. Thank you for considering this opportunity to help welcome our new families! (Use the sign up button above.)
Rehearsal Parent Opportunity: Smiles Wanted!
MYC Rehearsal Parents have the wonderful job of greeting our singers at every rehearsal (with a smile!) and marking their attendance on the ensemble roster. Rehearsal parents commit to arriving 10-15 minutes before rehearsal begins to be in place and ready to take attendance. Once everyone is checked in, phone calls are made to singers who are absent without prior notification. Volunteering to be a Rehearsal Parent is one of the very best ways to feel connected to the MYC community and provides a great opportunity to get to know not only the singers in your child's ensemble (and their families!) but also see how we rehearse and observe the magic that happens each week inside the rehearsal studios.

Thank you for considering this opportunity! Rehearsal Parents are needed for the following ensembles:

Sunday rehearsals: Choraliers; Con Gioia; Capriccio; Cantilena
Monday rehearsals: Britten

Please email Ian if you are interested and to get more information. Thank you!
Rehearsals Begin September 16 and 17
Your singer's full rehearsal and performance schedule for the entire season can be found on their Calendar located under Current Members on our website. To add your singer's rehearsal calendar to your Google collection simply click the +Google icon to subscribe from our webpage.

Thank you for looking ahead on your singer's calendar and notifying us of future absences by submitting the online Absence Form. We take attendance at every rehearsal and will call you if your singer is absent without our knowledge. (We do this for safety reasons.) Thank you for prioritizing rehearsals and reviewing our attendance policy in our Handbook.

Don't forget to take advantage of back-to-school sales and purchase your singer's 1" black binder for their music this season. Singer's should plan to bring their music binder to every rehearsal.
Returning Concert Wardrobe
If your singer is new to Capriccio having sung in Con Gioia last season or new to Ragazzi from Holst, please return their concert wardrobe (Con Gioia dress or boychoir pieces) to the office as soon as possible so we can begin organizing wardrobe for fittings this fall. (Watch this space for those details to come.)

Scotland 2018 Tour members: please return your extra white Oxford shirt if you are singing in Purcell, Britten, or Holst. If you are singing in Ragazzi, please return ALL pieces belonging to MYC (blue blazer, Oxford shirts, boychoir tie, khaki slacks). Thank you!

As a reminder, we do NOT need to be in the office for you to return wardrobe. Please use the blue bin outside our office door making sure your items are labeled with your name.

Current Capriccio singers: please watch for a special wardrobe email later today!

Questions? Please email Ian.
Special Opportunity: Madison Opera Presents Pagliacci
We are excited to announce an additional opportunity that your singer may be interested in this season. As the official children's choir of the Madison Opera, we have been asked to choose 12-16 singers to perform in their production of Pagliacci (“The Clowns”), the second half of a double-bill that will be conducted by Joseph Mechavich and directed by Kristine McIntyre. This is an amazing opportunity for our singers to participate in a professional opera production with an incredible cast and production staff, learn great music, and sing on the Overture Hall stage!

The children's chorus has an important role in the production and it will require the ability to be focused and on-task at all times. The commitment will be significant but well worth the extra time. We are looking for a group of up to 16 treble voice singers with a maximum height of 5'4" and a mix of boys and girls of various ages.

The commitment: all rehearsals and performances are required.
(This is currently a tentative schedule and subject to change.)

Pagliacci Interest Form
We will build the roster based on the needs of Madison Opera. Once you volunteer we assume you have checked the dates and can commit to 100% participation. Only singers who have submitted their 2018-2019 registration forms and tuition payment/tuition assistance forms are eligible. We will likely have more volunteers than are needed. We will confirm each participant once the roster is final. Thank you for your patience!
Tuition Payment Due September 10
Tuition statements will be emailed early next week to families with a balance due. Thank you for your timely payments!
Office Hours
The MYC office will be closed on Friday, August 31, and Monday, September 3, to mark the Labor Day holiday.

Our regular office hours resume on Tuesday next week: we are here each weekday from 9am to 5pm. Again, if you have wardrobe to return, you may do so at any time the mall is open even if our office is locked. Please use the blue bin outside our office door to return your labeled wardrobe.

Please note: Westgate, unfortunately, was impacted by the flooding last week and currently has signage on each door indicating the mall is closed to the public. Our offices were not impacted, thankfully, and have remained open: please use the old Hancock Fabrics entrance to the mall and make your way upstairs. (Entering at any other door will require you to possibly navigate barriers inside the mall.) Mall management is continuing to clean up the damage and we look forward to their progress!

Have a lovely holiday weekend, all!
