Question Of The Week

Question: "I have been seeing a lot of TV ads for something called 'PCMatic.'  Is this software really better than the other anti-viruses and will it make my computer run better?"

Answer:  This week's question is really two questions but the answer is the same to both:  no!

I have no doubt that you are familiar with the Latin phrase "caveat emptor" which means "buyer beware."  That definitely seems to be the case here.  In our shop, we have taken this program off of numerous computers because it caused problems.  We definitely do not recommend this software!

You should know, however, that it's not just us.  There are tons of complaints about this product (see: http://www.complaintslist.com/computer-software/pc-matic/).

I would remind you that it has been our experience that computers run more smoothly if they are kept lean and clean: i.e., no register cleaners, no driver update software, no more than one toolbar and no software which is supposed to "speed up" your computer.  I promise you, the more of this "junk" you put onto your computer, the worse the computer will run.

Please feel free to check with us before you install any software which will supposedly "help" your computer run better.
