Letter from Bishop Burk on transition in the Office of the Bishop
Dear Friends,

As we bid farewell to Pastor Eric Carlson after ten years of service as an assistant to the bishop, we are in the midst of a significant staffing transition. I am confident that Eric’s ministry as Senior Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Clive will continue to bless our shared mission. And I think it is important that you know the provisions being made to assure that the ministry of the Office of the Bishop continues to address the priorities of this synod.
Two things will help put these provisions into perspective:

I have chosen not to be available to serve another term as bishop, which means I will finish this calling on the last day of July 2020.

All positions on the staff of the Southeastern Iowa Synod are co-terminus (end) with the completion of the bishop’s service...

Lutheran Day on the Hill 
More than 200 Lutherans registered for the annual Lutheran Day on the Hill through Lutheran Services in Iowa. They gathered first at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church to hear about topics they were advocating for and a keynote address from Mikka McCracken of ELCA World Hunger.

Interfaith Youth Leader Camp

The Interfaith Youth Leadership Camp will take place July 17-21, 2019 and is now accepting applications from rising High School Juniors, rising Seniors, and 2019 graduates. An effort of the Des Moines Area Religious Council and the Comparison Project at Drake University, the camp brings together high school students from diverse backgrounds to explore the religious landscape of Des Moines. Each student creates a digital story telling project about their own faith that will be shared at a public screening on the last day of the camp. The camp is free of charge for participants and each student will receive an honorarium for taking part. For more information please contact Coordinator of Interfaith Engagement for DMARC Rev. Robes, Paraments for donation
Bethany Lutheran Church, West Branch has 12 shorter black choir robes (youth) and 22 longer ones (adult). There is also a set of green and a set of white altar cloths including the pulpit and lectern smaller ones. If your congregation is interested in these items contact Linda Black, 

Drake University’s Ray Society presents “The Most Segregated Hour of the Week,” an adult community learning course featuring Rev. Sarah Trone Garriott a Lutheran Minister and DMARC Coordinator of Interfaith Engagement, Rev. Travis Stanley of Norwalk Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and Rev. Dave Swinton of Grace United Methodist in Des Moines. This four-session course (April 3, 10, 17, 24) will delve into the history of racism in three predominantly white Christian denominations, lifting up stories of frustration, progress, and new possibilities.
