RealSource - As your 2017 President I have decided that there is no more important issue to our membership than Realtor Safety. In January I created a Presidential Advisor Group to investigate current safety technology. The PAG consisted of Amy Debellis, Carmela Holt and Karen White. After several months of reviewing numerous technologies and applications, the PAG recommended the “Wearsafe” peer to peer safety device ( as one component of the RealSource Safety Program. Wearsafe is a small tag that pairs with the Wearsafe app on your phone. When the tag is pressed it will send an alert to a network created by you that will alert friends and family, sends them audio from the scene, sends a map highlighting your exact location with address and starts a live chat room where your network can coordinate a response or call 911. All while keeping your phone—your lifeline—out of sight. The Board of Directors has unanimously voted to offer Wearsafe to all of our members and has determined that we cannot monetize safety, Wearsafe will be offered to all RealSource Members at no cost for the coming year. This one product cannot replace a comprehensive safety program but it is the best use of technology available today. We will have a full presentation and demonstration at our mid-year Membership meeting on Wearsafe.

New Jersey Realtors® - NJR has one of the most respected groups of Lobbyists in Trenton. NJR monitors not only legislation that impacts the Realtor Profession but also private property rights. We are the only association that consistently supports homeownership interests. Last week the RealSource Board of Directors participated in the NJR Trenton Day where several hundred Realtors from NJR assembled to hear from two of the gubernatorial candidates, Democrat Phil Murphy and Republican Jack Ciattarelli. Both candidates are very aware the issues impacting the State and were supportive the Realtor positions.

NAR - CALL TO ACTION - When Congress is considering legislation that affects the real estate industry, NAR calls on its members to act. Simply by contacting your Member of Congress through an e-mail or a phone call, you can ensure that your business remains strong. Currently NAR is dealing with Congress on several fronts, Tax Simplification and National Flood Insurance Program. The current NFIP expires in September and must be renewed. The program also needs to be updated to include the latest digital technology in flood mapping. The current maps are based on technology that is decades old. The current maps have definition in 20 foot increments where LIDAR has definition of 9.25 centimeters. In determining flood risk, elevation measurements are the most critical factor in determining flood plain status. NAR is lobbying for LIDAR to be adopted and will be sending out a “Call to Action” to all Realtors. Please respond to this Call To Action. Realtors can sign up for Calls to action at the Realtor Action Center by CLICKING HERE
