June Workshop to train artists, teachers, staff and
caregivers
Elders Share the Arts (ESTA) NYC is a Brooklyn program that honors elders as ‘bearers of history.’  Their Living History Methodology approach brings elders together for shared arts programs and experiences.  In this way, the arts capture legacies in stories, poetry, art and song, and build community for our most senior citizens.  On June 18, Jennie Smith-Peers, ESTA Executive Director, will be in Hampton Roads to present a workshop for TAO on how they conduct their 'arts as legacy expressions' programs.  This workshop is recommended for caregivers, artists, teachers, students and others interested in community service to the elderly.  TAO artists and program partners will receive a discount.  Link to  workshop registration is here

Night-time is the right time for these dementia sufferers.
"Sun-downing" is the term used to  describe the agitation seen in about 20% of dementia sufferers.  The Hebrew Home in the Bronx has set up a night-time, non-residential program, complete with dancing, live music and other activities, to engage with these individuals and help their loved ones maintain sleep and quality of life.   read more The Atlantic, April 2015
