Enjoy Grandparent’s Day with this fun scavenger hunt! Families will work together to explore Millbrook Marsh Nature Center for signs of nature while spending time with each other. No registration required. This event is free but donations are greatly appreciated.

Puddle Jumpers
Tuesdays &Thursdays starting August 29

Ages 3-5

The Puddle Jumpers program mixes outdoor exploration with fundamental learning through hands-on experiences at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center! This twice a week, drop-off program offers nature learning for kids ages 3-5, including unstructured, imaginative exploration and structured, hands-on learning. Kids should bring a snack each day and dress for the weather. Fall, winter, and spring sessions available. Each session is different so sign up for all three! Knee High Naturalist
Wednesdays in September

$6 Resident, $8 Non-resident
Explore Millbrook Marsh during these exciting programs for children ages 3-6! Programs include activities that follow basic phenology both in the field and on the trails. Please dress for the weather. Parents are required to stay for the program. To register,click HERE or call 814-231-3071. Registration starts August 17, 2017. Kayaking 101
Saturday, September 9 and 16

Cost is $80
Location: Welch Pool
Boating weather isn’t over yet, there’s still time to get a paddle in the water! Learn basic kayaking techniques, wet exits, safety skills, and more during this two day introductory course. Kayaks, paddles, and PDFs are provided. Participants should come prepared to be in the pool and get wet. Class is limited to 5 participants so enroll today! Funded in part by the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society and a grant from the Environmental Stewardship Fund under the administration of the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.

Early Morning Bird Walks

Tuesdays September 12, 19, 26 and October 3, Saturday October 7
7:30 AM - 8:30 AM

Are you an early bird or want to see one? Start your day off right by spending it in the stunning marsh ecosystem. This year we are excited to offer a Saturday option! Walks are open to all ages and levels of experience. Please dress for the weather and bring your binoculars. In the event of heavy rain, the walk will be cancelled. No registration required. Walks are free, but donations are greatly appreciated.
 
 
 
 
Music and Movie Night
Friday, September 15

All ages are welcome
Join us at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center to enjoy a fantastically FREE summer evening before the cooler temperatures set in. Enjoy music and lawn games from 6-7:30 PM. Bring a blanket or a chair to enjoy the movie, starting just after sunset. Popcorn will be provided.  In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the barn. Watch our website and Facebook page for movie and band announcements! No registration required. Event is free but donations are greatly appreciated.

The Basics of Foraging for Mushrooms with Bill Russell

Bill Russell is a long time State College resident who has been leading mushroom workshops and walks since 1960. He is the founder and past president of the Central Pennsylvania Mushroom Society and is the author of Field Guide to the Wild Mushrooms of Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic. Join him for a brief power point and a walk. 
 
 
 
 
The Physiology of Fungi with Christopher Smyth

Come explore multiple samples of fungi through high quality microscopes and gain a better knowledge of the wonderful world of fungi. Discover the parts of a mushroom and their lifecycles with Christopher Smyth, a PhD student at Penn State in the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology.
 
 
 
 
Cultivating Edible Mushrooms with Scott Baylets

Join Scott Baylets, a Spring Mills native and avid farmer, to learn how to make a countertop mushroom bag. Cultivate your own delicious oyster mushrooms and enjoy your homegrown treats within 30 days of the class!
