Sister Joan Chittister
Bishop's annual charity golf tournament
July 29th, 2016

Even if you do not golf, you can support the Micah Project of Sioux City by sponsoring a hole. And if you are a beginning golfer- or just plain terrible at golfing, but want to have some fun, you can buy mulligans (another swing when things go bad!) You can buy golf indulgences (a piece of yarn that will allow you to mark your ball in a much better position!) And you can win prizes even if you are not a good golfer! With these handicaps you are sure to beat the good golfers! This golf outing is all for fun and the proceeds go to a good local charity- the Micah Project. This is a 4 person team best ball tournament that begins at 10 AM sharp. You can register as an individual or as a team. You can play 9 or 18 holes and enjoy a light lunch for the same low price. But please hurry and register now! If you have any questions, please contact Jeff Ungs at the mission center. (712) 732-4968 x449.
Aging Faithfully
2016 Conference

Our lives and faith look different in the second chapter of life. There are new opportunities, and many experiences behind us, too.
You may find yourself asking:
  • What is God’s purpose for me in this stage of life?
  • What does faithfulness look like now?
  • How do I trust Him and have courage as seasons change?
  • How can my faith remain vibrant and strong?
  • How can I help others who find themselves in this stage of life?

Student testimony....I began this journey to help me to have a greater background to assist in the ministry of the church, and to grow my understanding of the Bible to be more fluent in teaching and assisting in worship when asked.  I have really enjoyed Discipleship Academy and digging into scripture, listening to the insight of the classmates and the instructors. I appreciate the dialogue between classmates, hearing about their stories, and how they have grown to where they are in their faith. It is great to see this class, who live in many corners of the Synod, come together as part of the Body of Christ, support each other, pray for each other, learn together, and worship together. Thanks for the experience of Discipleship Academy, Year 1.

For the Health of It
Can you spot a healthy leader?
Our churches are stronger when God’s people are good stewards of the lives God has given them. When our leaders tend their well-being, they model strength, courage, vulnerability, compassion, and grace.

  • A healthy leader is comfortable talking about money. Because she has addressed her own financial matters, she can more confidently guide her congregation through financial challenges with grace, empathy, and wisdom.

  • A healthy leader cares for himself emotionally and physically, knowing that when he does, his people get him at his best. He is more likely to be a non-anxious, listening presence, able to guide others through difficult situations.

  • A healthy leader knows there is strength in vulnerability. She embraces help from family, colleagues, professionals, etc., and looks for opportunities to share with others how she was helped. In this way, she affirms for others that we can't live well when we stand alone.

  • A healthy leader speaks openly about his life, sharing stories of his own decisions — wise and less wise. In this way, he engages others in honest conversation, and invites them to more openly consider and discuss their own issues.

Being Church Together Comes to Fruition For This Parish
Cindy Wells, Director for Global Mission
Gadi and I were at Bethlehem, Cherokee last summer on a Sunday when they were fundraising for the well project, whereby they were hoping to get enough to drill a well....when all was said and done, at the brunch following the worship service, Pr. Jean was about in tears to announce they had raised enough for two!  (All that while I also noticed in their bulletin an announcement that they were behind in giving for their church budget!) It was a good day...and this is the result.

From Gadi Msule: We are drilling at Wangama preaching point which is at Chalowe parish we will have to drill two wells there! Asante sana Mungu akubariki .

Bwana Yesu Asifiwe!  Amen!
