Prayers and Sympathies to a colleague and his family!
Many of you have probably already heard the sad news about the death of Wanda Norris, wife of Rev. Arlyn Norris. Memorial services are listed at the bottom of the page. Please keep their family in your prayers.
Wanda Lee (Schoon) Norris died on May 20, 2017 at her winter home in Tucson, AZ. In the weeks before her death, many friends and family members surrounded Wanda with their love through their visits, phone calls and messages of encouragement.
Wanda was born February 7, 1951 in Sibley, IA to Ted and Alice (Huisman) Schoon. During her youth she lived with her parents on farms near Sibley. In 1969 she graduated from Sibley High School and enrolled at Northwestern College, Orange City, IA. After two years at Northwestern, she worked for a year at Country View Manor Nursing Home in Sibley.
On June 3, 1972, Wanda married Arlyn Norris and that fall she enrolled at Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN, graduating with an RN diploma in 1975. She and her husband moved to Kenmare, ND, where she worked at Kenmare Deaconess Hospital.
In 1982 Wanda and Arlyn moved to Rake, IA, and while they lived there, Wanda worked at the Titonka Medical Clinic. In 1991, the Norris family moved to Estherville, IA, where Wanda was employed as a care plan coordinator at Rosewood Manor Nursing Home.
In 2001 Wanda and her husband moved to Treynor, IA and Wanda began work as a CNA instructor at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs. She retired in 2014. In 2015 she and her husband moved to Tucson, AZ.
Wanda was an active member in the congregations in which her husband served as pastor and was a member of Tanque Verde Lutheran Church in Tucson after she and her husband retired. She enjoyed many activities, including gardening, cooking, sewing and hosting guests in her home.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband and three children: sons Seth (Flor de Liz) and Aaron (Ashley), daughter, Rachel; three granddaughters: Anea, Brie and Ophelia; siblings Mary (Henry) Idema; Bob (Helen); Lois Nieuwendorp; Linda (Alan) Vander Zwaag; Greg; Sharon (Kyle) Carroll and Randy (Renee).
On Monday June 5 a family visitation will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Treynor, from 7 to 9 pm. A second memorial service will take place on Tuesday, June 6 at 10:30am also at St. Paul Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Tanque Verde Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Western Iowa Companion Synod projects (www.wisynod.org).
