Update from the Director

2016 is off to a fast start. I have made a business trip to Los Angeles and participated in a real estate convention in Las Vegas so far this year. Making connections with companies, realtors, and site selectors is an important element in attracting investment, jobs, and employers to the region. The website is consistently being improved to add more features, data, and information. Websites are a proven resource for business development consultants who can find a wide variety of information on the region, including available buildings and sites and full community profiles. In business attraction, much of the initial research done by consultants for their clients is done via website searches. They can quickly define a location and compare communities before any formal contact is made with the municipality or development organization like GPREP.
 
My next trip will be to Dallas, TX to attend the MRO Americas from April 5th-7th. The commercial air transport maintenance, repair and overhaul community has recognized this trade show as the industry’s premiere event. Staff from Site Location Partnership will have a booth at the event to distribute GPREP promotional materials. In addition, I am working with SLP staff to schedule meetings with site selectors during the day on April 6th. Based on my attendance and meetings at the trade show, I hope to have generated enough interest from key site selectors to host a 2-3 day tour of the region during the May/June time frame.

ZoomProspector Program

GPREP recently added a local version of the ZoomProspector Enterprise online GIS site selection software to its website. Staff from GIS Planning, Inc. have created a comprehensive program that allows site selectors and business development consultants from around the globe to research potential locations for the clients. ZoomProspector features extensive location data with a comprehensive property database. Individuals can search a community with available buildings and sites, compare communities, prepare property data reports, analyze demographic and labor force data, and research business industry clusters. Anyone can use this program without cost. RE/MAX R4 Convention

Some 6,000 people attended the RE/MAX R4 Convention in Las Vegas. This four-day event was held February 29th-March 3rd at the MGM Grand. GPREP was invited by Paul Schneider and Cindy Lorio of RE/MAX Mountain Properties in Prescott to attend the convention. During the event, we distributed hundreds of packets of materials and giveaways to attendees interested in learning more about the Greater Prescott Region. Our goal was to make sure as many people as possible knew what a wonderful area this is to live and to locate a business. Thanks to Margo Christensen for donating a 4-night stay at the Residence Inn. It helped to drive additional traffic to our booth. We will follow-up with any inquiries from those who attended the convention. 
 
 
 
 
 
Business Development Initiatives

GPREP will be working with staff from Site Location Partnership (SLP) to enhance our local business attraction efforts. SLP is a professional consulting firm located in Texas. Over the next year, SLP staff will assist with developing target industries; setting appointments with site selectors; representing GPREP at trade shows; networking with site selectors; and utilizing the SLP website for additional direct marketing. Staff from SLP plan to visit the region in late March to meet with local economic development practitioners and other stakeholders to develop a comprehensive business development strategy based on our needs. They will also assist us on organizing a spring tour of key site selectors/business development consultants through their contacts, as well as a possible fall tour around the AOPA 2016 Fly-In.

 
 
 
 
 
Housing Market Data

Housing is an important element in economic development. Many of us hear that the housing market is starting to “take off” again, which is a good indicator that the economy is strengthening. However, the competition for housing, especially apartments and more moderately priced single-family homes, makes it difficult for many individuals to find suitable housing. Lack of housing can be a factor for companies not being able to recruit and retain employees. The Prescott Area Association of Realtors (PAAR) maintains comprehensive data on housing data in the region. You can access the information by visiting their website at www.paar.org. John Amos, President & CEO, 
Yavapai Regional Medical Center

John is President & Chief Executive Officer of Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott and Prescott Valley, Arizona.  John's background includes over 25 years in healthcare, including eleven years in healthcare operations leadership and another nine years of senior level administrative experience at YRMC.

In addition to his administrative duties at the Medical Center, John is a past Chairman and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce, Central Arizona Partnership, Greater Prescott Regional Economic Partnership, Prescott Valley Economic Development Foundation and the Arizona Hospital & Healthcare Association. John is active with the American College of Healthcare Executives, Mountain Institute - JTED Community Advisory Board and serves on several local community and business focus/advisory committees.
