Welcome, and Welcome Back!
If you're just starting at Texas State or you already know exactly what a Mansky Roll is, I extend to you a welcome on behalf of Christ Chapel.  We are a campus ministry for ALL students, supported by Lutherans and Episcopalians from across the nation.  Our work is joyful, our worship is meaningful, our hospitality is genuine.  Below are a number of events coming up in the weeks ahead, and you are invited to them all. Do note at least one thing: When you worship with us for the first time, we are happy to take you out to dinner and pay for it.  Bribery?  Sort of, but first and foremost it's because Jesus was in the business of feeding people, so we are, too.  - Jaime Bouzard, Chaplain
Sunday worship, 5:30 - Join us this and every Sunday at 5:30 in the evening for a meaningful, joyful, prayerful worship service.  It won't be just like home or camp, but it will be comfortable and start your week on the right note.  On September 11, we'll have a free Barbeque Dinner following worship at 6:45.  Most every first Sunday of the month, we have a free home-cooked meal after worship, provided by our fine friends from First Lutheran here in San Marcos.  Other congregations also provide meals at various times throughout the semester, and they are always welcome and delicious.
Bread and Belonging: Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.
We start each Wednesday evening with a loaf of fresh-baked bread and butter, then move to an experiential service that changes every week.  Sometimes we have professors visit to talk about their faith; sometimes we make communion wine; sometimes we sing and pray and study a passage together.  It's always non-judgmental and perfect for beginners.  We end at about 6:15 most nights.  This week: A Liturgy of New Beginnings.
Noonday Pause for Prayer
Take 15 minutes to just be in a brief service held in the sanctuary at Christ Chapel. We begin at noon and end by 12:15, with enough time left over to make 12:30 class starts.
Jesus on Tap: September 8, 7:00 p.m.
We gather each month at an area coffee house for conversation on a topic. This month, 15 years after 9/11, we'll talk about security and what it looks like in every sense; national, spiritual, etc.  Meet at 6:45 at Christ Chapel to carpool (or walkpool), as we'll be going to Tantra Coffee House, just across Hopkins from the little HEB.
Well Springs Annual Retreat: September 16-18
Well Springs is a beautiful retreat center just 30 miles from our campus, and we've gathered there every September for many, many years.  The scene from our header on this newsletter comes from Well Springs; it's a beautiful swimming area called "The Narrows."  We will leave at 5:00 on Friday the 16th and return on Sunday by noon. What do we do on this retreat?  Relax, swim, eat, play games, sing songs, worship.  There is no heavy schedule and no program.  It's meant to be, well, a retreat.  The cost is $15, and must be paid by September 14.  Space is limited to 25, so if you are interested, e-mail me at christchapel@txstate.edu right away.
God Goes to the Movies: September 15, 7:00 p.m.
We'll watch this new but soon to be a classic Disney movie. The plot: In a city of anthropomorphic animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.  Believe it or not, there are a ton of theological themes to wade through, and we'll do that in the conversation that follows.  Popcorn provided, no reservations needed.  We meet in Christ Chapel Lounge, on the lower level of the Christ Chapel building.
