As many of you know the issues of food insecurity are close to my heart after spending years helping direct ELCA World Hunger. In 1960 President John F Kennedy stated that hunger was a problem we can fix. Fifty-five years later we continue to try. The following is an invitation to a gathering in Des Moines on November 8, sponsored by the major faith communities of Iowa, that will show our willingness to stand together to end hunger. Please plan to join me at Grand View University.

Vote to End Hunger!!
As Iowans who are charged and priviliged with hosting the first national caucus, drawing considerable presidential candidate presence to Iowa, and affording Iowans with particularly wide access to the candidates where we can share our concerns and impact future policy, we are gifted the opportunity to participate in the political process, to organize our voices and to advocate to diminish hunger and poverty--here, there and everywhere!
Bread for the World (major ecumenical hunger advocacy organizaion) and the Iowa Catholic Conference--along with many other Iowa religious and community organizations, including the 3 ELCA Iowa Synods--are sponsoring the Vote to End Hunger rally on Nov. 8 at Grand View University in Des Moines at 2 pm. Rev. David Beckmann, President of Bread for the World and Bishop Richard Pates Catholic Diocese of the Des Moines will be speakers. Any and all are encouraged to join in the effort! Presidential candidates, faith and organizational leaders, students and youth, elected officials, etc., have all been invited.
Let us respond collectively as Christians to end poverty and hunger!
Sponsoring organizations: Church World Service, the Northeastern, Southeastern and Western Iowa Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Iowa Conference of the United Church of Christ, the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa, the Presbytery of Des Moines and the Jewish Federation of Greater Des Moines.
