Cantabile and Ragazzi Perform at Monroe Arts Center this Sunday, April 22 at 2PM
We hope many in our MYC community will make the lovely drive through Green County to hear Cantabile and Ragazzi perform at the Monroe Arts Center this Sunday, April 22, at 2pm. Tickets are available through their website or at the door: $10 Adults/$5 students. DVD's of last year's performance of The Snow Goose will also be available to purchase.

Reminders for Cantabile and Ragazzi:
  • Buses depart Westgate no later than 11:30am, please plan to arrive by 11:20 so you don't miss the bus and please plan to have already eaten your lunch (or eat on the bus) as we'll be starting rehearsal upon arrival in Monroe.
  • Singers that live closer to Monroe are welcome to meet us at the Monroe Arts Center at 12:25pm; please email Mike if you will not be taking the bus.
  • We happily welcome a few Cantabile or Ragazzi parents to ride the bus with us; please email Mike if you can help in this way
  • Singers should arrive at Westgate/Monroe dressed in their full concert wardrobe (black dresses/hose/black flats; tuxedos/black shoes) since there is no place at the venue to change.
  • We'll provide snacks after the concert (please bring your own if you have dietary restrictions).
  • We will return to Westgate by 4:30pm at the latest (likely earlier). Singers are welcome to return to Madison with their families if you attend the concert; just see Mike before you leave Monroe.
  • There is no rehearsal that evening at Westgate. Enjoy your early evening!
Reserving Your Seat for Next Season:
Intention Forms Due May 1
Intention forms for next season were distributed last week in rehearsals and also delivered to families via email. The intention form serves as a seat reservation for next season and is due, along with a $50 tuition deposit, by May 1. With many of our ensembles nearing their capacity, we want to make sure every current singer who wishes to continue with MYC has their seat reserved for next season BEFORE we hear any NEW singers audition.

Audition reservations are handled separately via our website links and should be made only after the intention form and deposit have been submitted.

We're looking forward to a fabulous 2018-19 season and hope you will be a part of it!
Tuition and Fundraising Statements
Updated tuition and fundraising statements were emailed to families last week who have had activity in the past month or who have an outstanding balance. As a reminder, the fundraising contribution goal may be met by writing a check for the amount remaining and this is considered a tax-deductible donation to MYC.  Thank you for paying attention to your progress toward raising $200!
Details for Con Gioia Event on Saturday, April 28
We can't wait! We are looking forward to greeting our visiting choir  (CoMUSICation)  and working with our good friends Leotha and Tamera Stanley from Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

4:20pm | Con Gioia singers should arrive at Mt. Zion church (2019 Fisher
St in Madison) wearing red MYC polo and jeans/pants.

4:30pm | Joint rehearsal begins. Dinner will be provided for singers. If your singer has a special dietary need, please send food with them. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the joint rehearsal if you'd like, but dinner will only be provided for singers. Feel free to drop off your singer and return for the 7pm concert.

7:00pm | Concert (open to the public)

8:30pm | Our evening is complete.

Just a few more host families are needed for Friday, April 27 to Saturday morning, April, 28. You can view the details and sign up using the link below. This is a great opportunity to show hospitality and make new (singing) friends from Minnesota!

Special Opportunity for Capriccio, Cantilena, Cantabile, Britten and Holst Singers
We are extending a special invitation to all Capriccio, Cantilena, Cantabile, Britten and Holst treble singers to participate in a great project with our good friends at Opera for the Young.

We have been asked to record the choruses in English and Spanish for the tutorial CD for next season's tour of Super Storm, an original work composed by our good friend, (and MYC collaborative pianist) Scott Gendel. Interested singers are asked to commit to three rehearsals and the recording day:

Rehearsals at Westgate Studios (Studio 4)
Thursday, May 3, 4:45-6:00pm
Thursday, May 10, 4:45-6:000pm
Thursday, May 17, 4:45-6:000pm

Recording Date (First United Methodist Church)
Sunday, May 20, 12:00PM - 2:15PM

Please RSVP to Lisa Kjentvet with your singer's name and choir if you are available for all rehearsals and the recording date. We will build the roster based on the needs of Opera for the Young. Once you volunteer we assume you have checked the dates and can commit to 100% participation. Thank you to those singers that have already expressed interest. Lisa will confirm each participant once the list is final--thank you for your patience!
Spring Outreach Tours
It's time to get on the bus! Our spring outreach tour days are fast approaching (see calendar reminders below) and we are looking forward to performing for thousands of Dane County residents who have invited us to their school or retirement home.

What Happens on Tour Day?
Singers meet at and depart from Westgate Mall around 8am and return around 3pm. Specific itinerary details are still being finalized and will be shared next week.  Each ensemble travels by bus to four different venues throughout the day performing selections from their season repertoire for audience members who might not ever have the opportunity to attend one of our concerts. It's a tremendous day of making music, forging friendships, and building lasting memories together--this day is always remembered as a highlight of the MYC experience for our singers.

Each tour is a full day and we ask that you excuse your singer from school to participate in this important community outreach event. The dates have been published on your calendar since the beginning of the season and we assume each singer is participating as everyone is important to the ensemble: please make sure you have taken note of your singer's tour day and have communicated the absence to your school. If you need a written explanation for the absence, we have provided a brief description linked below.

Tuesday, May 1: Purcell and Holst | Con Gioia (itinerary to be shared next week)
Thursday, May 3: Britten (itinerary to be shared next week)
Friday, May 4: Capriccio (itinerary to be shared next week)

Want to ride along and lend a hand? Parent chaperones are needed for each tour. Please email Lisa Kjentvet with your interest.
Please Try On Your Concert Wardrobe!
The best time to do this is NOW so we have time to secure additional wardrobe before the May concert, if necessary. If you need to resize any items, please contact Ian. (If you were fitted in March, we are still working on pulling together your items!)
Our final ordering opportunity of the season will be in April with orders due by Monday, April 23. Families receive $5/unit sold toward their fundraising contribution goal.

MYC Flyers
Want to help us spread the word about how to join MYC? Do you want more families from your community/neighborhood to know about MYC? Is there a coffee shop, grocery store or other business you frequent where community flyers are displayed? We would love the extra help in posting our information throughout Dane County (and beyond).  Please help yourself to a flyer (or two or three) at the rehearsal table this weekend and post (with permission) in places visible to the public. Thank you for your help!
Run MadTown and Brat Fest Fundraising Opportunities
Both of these events take place Memorial Day Weekend and provide wonderful opportunities to raise money for Madison Youth Choirs (and make advanced progress toward your 2018-19 family fundraising contribution, i.e., NEXT season's goal for singers planning to return.)
