Bread for World Offering of Letters Training
Zach Schmidt from Bread for the World led a training event at the Synod Center for Ministry on April 25, for BFW’s 2019 Offering of Letters to Congress.  The theme and emphasis for this year’s effort is, “Better Nutrition, Better Tomorrow.”

In 2017, the synod assembly adopted a resolution regarding the first 1000 days of life, a time from conception to age two when nutrition is vitally critical for the healthy development of children, a developmental time that impacts a person’s entire life.  This year’s offering of letters likewise reflects this concern calling for additional investment in efforts that will provide better access, both domestically and globally, to nutrition for expecting mothers and their children.

Information and registration are available online for the 2019 Synod Assembly to be held May 10-11, 2019 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.

  • We will not be asking for dietary restrictions this year on registration, but we do have options, please see the menu online
  • Please bring your congregation's reusable shopping bag, filled with items that represent your outreach so that we can bless them during worship.

Youth Gathering Planning Team Applications Open
The Gathering is primarily planned and led by amazing volunteers who serve on 14 different teams. Starting April 21, 2019 we will be accepting applications from individuals who would like to participate in the planning process. Applications will be accepted until June 21, 2019. Learn more and apply

Over 12 million people worldwide live in refugee camps with less than 0.1% resettled, repatriated or integrated into mainstream society each year. The feature-length documentary Warehoused highlights the plight of long-term refugees over the course of history, culminating in today’s refugee crisis. Q&A following, admission is free.
