PPL Introduces new Bible study:
Pregnant With Promise
Pregnant With Promise is a Bible Study for men and women of all ages-it is NOT just for women who are pregnant or mothers!
The biblical stories of pregnant women: Eve, Sarah, Mary, & others, hold wonderful surprises, promises, and lessons for believers.
Through these true life stories, you will learn of a God who knew and loved you before you were born. You will discover a God who is present in your most painful experiences. God provides for his people, keeps his promises, accomplishes the impossible, and brings blessing and life even when we deserve the curse of death.

Praying Solomon's Prayer
by Marie Bowen
Lately, when I think of the PCUSA, a phrase from a 1950s rockabilly hit comes to mind: "Whole lotta shakin' goin on." It seems like an apt description for current happenings in the PC(USA). It's a different kind of shaking to be sure-more like "Thus Saith the Lord, the the bass recitative from Handel's Messiah, And I will shake the heavens, the earth, the sea, the dry land. (Haggai 2:6)
...Is God shaking the church? If He is, what response does He desire from you and me? Prayer is a good beginning for our efforts to discern our role in these times in our denomination.
Solomon's Prayer of dedication for the temple seems an appropriate model for our prayers. (I Kings 8:22-61)
Will you join me in praying for the PC(USA) during the 40 days of Lent? Read more.

A Longing Surrendered
A story of the power of surrender and of God's perfect and divine timing.
by Patty Toomey
|Madison & Garrett Toomey |
I have been a nurse for over 20 years. The majority of my career has been in women's health, mainly in labor and delivery. While I was helping mothers give birth to their babies, my husband Greg and I were going through a difficult time. The process of desperately trying to become parents nearly destroyed our marriage.
...I was angry with God. I felt frustrated as I worked and watched women come and go through labor and delivery. Some were well prepared, excited and full of love and anticipation. Some were ill prepared and not really wanting the burden of mothering a child...I prayed to God-no really I shouted to God-one afternoon as I neared my breaking point. "Fine," I cried, "Just fine, Lord! If you don't want me to be a mother, fine, just extinguish the desire in my heart!" I surrendered. Read the full story.

Several women at the church, have received training in PPL's Abortion Recovery Ministry Workshops and work collaboratively to offer the Forgiven & Set Free Bible Study once or twice a year in a weekend format. FPCO women are working on putting laminated signs in both the men's and women's bathrooms. The signs offer post-abortion ministry by pastoral staff. All of PPL email newsletters are forwarded to members of the FPCO session.
FPCO is a long-time supporter of PPL and is engaged with a number of renewal organizations in the PC(USA).

what was lost:
A Christian Journey through miscarriage
Elise Erikson Barrett has writtenout of the pain of her own multiple early miscarriages. She shares candidly about her questions: "Where was God?" "Did this little life matter to anyone but me?" She shares personally, theologically, and academically what she has learned in the journey.
Life before birth...does matter to God. ...God is involved in this prebirth life in real and fundamental ways... embryonic life is still life lived fully in the presence of God. (p.51)
This book is a helpful guide for those walking through the grief of miscarriage and must reading for those who counsel them. For more information about the book
