Update on the Pare Diocese (ELCT)
The Southeastern Iowa Synod has been in a companion relationship with the Pare Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) since 1988. This companion relationship is a gift to the whole body of Christ as we continue to live and serve together in The Name of Jesus.

The Rev. Charles Mjema, Bishop of the Pare Diocese, informed us a year ago that the ELCT has granted permission to the Mwanga district (northern part of the diocese) to separate and form a new diocese. Read the rest of the letter from Bishop Burk and and update from Bishop Mjema.

Easter Message from Bishop Eaton
Easter is early this year, and in many places across this church trees will still be bare and fields barren. It might even snow. But on Easter morning we will gather to greet the risen Son and give thanks to God for the new life we have in Jesus Christ.

Two things come to mind this Easter when there is still only the hint of spring: Jesus’ words to his disciples just before his crucifixion and a hymn. Jesus said, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”

Jesus was talking about his death, but he was also assuring his disciples and us that death is not the end, that, though it might seem impossible and even terrifying to step into the void, God brings life out of death. Read the rest as a PDF or watch the video message below.

Beth Lewis, President and CEO of Augsburg Fortress, to present at First Lutheran in Cedar Rapids, Saturday, April 23rd at 10am
Beth will present, Generational Differences in the Church.  This workshop will explore the aging trends in many of our congregations across a wide range of denominations and faith traditions as compared to population demographics in North America. Why are so many of our congregations failing to reach children, youth and young adults?  We will examine the unique formative events in the lives and characteristics of the current generations (GI, Builders, Boomers, Gen X’rs, Millennials & Gen Z) and offer suggestions for worship, faith formation and communications that suit their generational perspectives. You’ll come away with practical suggestions to take back to your congregation to welcome those of multiple generations into your faith community.
This event is FREE and open to the public.
